M32 (catamaran)
The M32 (formerly the Marstsrom 32) is a class of sailing catamaran designed by Göran Marström and Kåre Ljung and first built in 2010 by Marstrom Composite AB. The design and production rights were sold in 2013 to Aston Harald Composite AB led by Håkan Svensson and run by Killian Bushe. Design The M32 is a lightweight, all carbon, high-performance, one-design multihull. Each of the two hulls - constructed of carbon fiber over a Nomex core - weigh and feature increased forward buoyancy to reduce nose diving. The boat weighs overall and carries a sail area of resulting in a very high sail area to weight ratio. The sail plan includes only a high aspect ratio, fully battened mainsail for upwind sailing combined with a furling gennaker for downwind sailing. Göran Marström (born 12 October 1942) is a former Swedish sailor who competed in four Summer Olympics. Marström won a bronze medal in the Tornado class at the 1980 Summer Olympics together with Jörgen Ragnarsson. Multihull
A multihull is a boat or ship with more than one hull, whereas a vessel with a single hull is a monohull. The most common multihulls are catamarans (with two hulls), and trimarans (with three hulls). There are other types, with four or more hulls, but such examples are very rare and tend to be specialised for particular functions. Sailing multihulls Counter-intuitively, it is unhelpful to think of the design progression to be "1-2-3", namely monohull - catamaran - trimaran; rather, it is "1-3-2". A sailing trimaran is, in effect, a modified monohull with lightweight outrigger hulls (or "amas") for stability instead of a heavy deep keel; so it follows that a sailing trimaran will be lighter and faster than a sailing monohull. Sloop
A sloop is a sailboat with a single mast typically having only one headsail in front of the mast and one mainsail aft of (behind) the mast. Such an arrangement is called a fore-and-aft rig, and can be rigged as a Bermuda rig with triangular sails fore and aft, or as a gaff-rig with triangular foresail(s) and a gaff rigged mainsail. Sailboats can be classified according to type of rig, and so a sailboat may be a sloop, catboat, cutter, ketch, yawl, or schooner. A sloop usually has only one headsail, although an exception is the Friendship sloop, which is usually gaff-rigged with a bowsprit and multiple headsails. The GC32 is a class of hydrofoiling catamaran, 32 feet in length (9.75 meters) and constructed of carbon fibre, with a top speed of about . They are sailed in the GC32 Racing Tour, and have replaced the Extreme 40's in the Extreme Sailing Series. History Conceived by Laurent Lenne, who was trained as a naval architect in Southampton, the GC32 was designed by Dr. Martin Fischer. Built from carbon fibre, the boat is manufactured in Dubai by Premier Composite Technologies and then marketed by Lenne's company, THE GREAT CUP BV. In 2013, the first version of the GC32 was built. The Nacra 17 is a performance catamaran used for sailing. It was designed in 2011, went into production in 2012 and has been the focus of multihull sailing at the Olympic Games since its conception. The Nacra has been converted to a sailing hydrofoil for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
