United States Hand Grenades
The military of the United States has used many different types of hand grenades since its foundation. High explosive, fragmentation, and blast Mk I The Mk 1 grenade was introduced in 1917 during World War I. A multistep arming process on the device resulted in many failures, and as a result it was replaced in 1918 by the Mk II. Mk II and Mk IIA1 More commonly known as the ''Pineapple'', the Mk II series (also written Mk 2) was the most commonly used US fragmentation grenade of the Second World War. The Mk II had a grooved exterior originally intended to aid fragmentation of the grenade. However, later studies showed that this design has no effect on fragmentation, though it does provide a non-slip surface that improves grip. The filling was either EC blank fire powder (approximately . smokeless small arms powder) or flaked TNT (approx. ). TNT became the common filler from 1942 onwards.Vilinsky, Alan. ISO Metric Screw Thread
The ISO metric screw thread is the most commonly used type of general-purpose screw thread worldwide. They were one of the first international standards agreed when the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was set up in 1947. The "M" designation for metric screws indicates the nominal outer diameter of the screw thread, in millimetres. This is also referred to as the "major" diameter in the information below. It indicates the diameter of smooth-walled hole that an externally threaded component (e.g. on a bolt) will pass through easily to connect to an internally threaded component (e.g. a nut) on the other side. For example, an M6 screw has a nominal outer diameter of 6 millimetres and will therefore be a well-located, co-axial fit in a hole drilled to 6 mm diameter. Basic profile The design principles of ISO general-purpose metric screw threads ("M" series threads) are defined in international standard ISO 68-1. Each thread is characterized by it ... Mercedes V6 Hybrid Formula One Power Unit
The Mercedes V6 hybrid Formula One power unit is a series of 1.6-litre, hybrid turbocharged V6 racing engines which features both a kinetic energy recovery system (MGU-K) and a heat energy recovery system (MGU-H), developed and produced by Mercedes-AMG High Performance Powertrains for use in Formula One. The engines were in use since the 2014 season by the Mercedes works team. Over years of development, engine power was increased from at 15,000 rpm, to at 15,000 rpm. Customer team engines were used by Williams, McLaren, Lotus, Manor Racing, Force India, Racing Point Force India, Racing Point and Aston Martin. Their most recent championship victories are in (Drivers') and (Constructors'). Enduring a successful run since the 2014 season, the Mercedes V6 Hybrid engine has become one of the most successful Formula One engines of all time. It broke the record for most wins in a season in 2016 (this record has since been surpassed by Honda with Red Bull Racing in 2023), as wel ... Messier 14
Messier 14 (also known as M14 or NGC 6402) is a globular cluster of stars in the constellation Ophiuchus. It was discovered by Charles Messier in 1764. At a distance of about 30,000 light-years, M14 contains several hundred thousand stars. At an apparent magnitude of +7.6 it can be easily observed with binoculars. Medium-sized telescopes will show some hint of the individual stars of which the brightest is of magnitude +14. The total luminosity of M14 is in the order of 400,000 times that of the Sun corresponding to an absolute magnitude of -9.12. The shape of the cluster is decidedly elongated. M14 is about 100 light-years across. A total of 70 variable stars are known in M14, many of the W Virginis variety common in globular clusters. In 1938, a nova appeared, although this was not discovered until photographic plates from that time were studied in 1964. It is estimated that the nova reached a maximum brightness of magnitude +9.2, over five times brighter than the brightest ' ... March 14 Alliance
The March 14 Alliance (), named after the date of the Cedar Revolution, was a coalition of political party, political parties and independents in Lebanon formed in 2005 that were united by their anti-Ba'athist Syria, Assad stance and by their opposition to the March 8 Alliance. It was led by Saad Hariri, Walid Jumblatt and Samir Geagea, as well as other prominent figures. M14 (cell Line)
The NCI-60 cancer cell line panel is a group of 60 human cancer cell lines used by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) for the screening of compounds to detect potential anticancer activity. Purpose The screening procedure is called the NCI-60 Human Tumor Cell Lines Screen, and it is one of the Discovery & Development Services of NCI's Developmental Therapeutics Program (DTP). The screening rates for each cell line the cytostatic and cytotoxic impact of tested substances. Due to the diversity of the cell lines, it is possible to compare tested compounds by their effect patterns, high correlation potentially corresponding to similar effect mechanisms. An automated comparison against a database of more than 88,000 pure compounds and more than 34,000 crude extracts () is provided by the COMPARE tool, which shows a list of substances ranked by the Pearson correlation coefficients for a given test substance. The same panel is used in the Molecular Target Program for ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Watercat M14-class Landing Craft
The Watercat M14 landing craft is a Jurmo-class type of military transport in use by the Royal Malaysia Police. The manufacturer is Marine Alutech Oy Ab, Finland. It is related to the Watercat M12 of the Finnish Navy. History The Jurmo was the result of modernisation in the Finnish Navy in the late 1990s. It was designed to replace the existing Uisko class landing craft. Its main purpose is landing and transportation operations for the Finnish Coastal Jaegers in all weather conditions. It has good maneuverability and can come to a full stop in only one ship length from top speed. Low draft makes it suitable for amphibious assault even in shallow waters. The Watercat M14 can transport 5 tons of cargo or 16 men. Operators ;:Royal Malaysia Police: 10 vessels of the Watercat M14 version. Vedeneyev M14P
The Vedeneyev M14P is a Russian nine-cylinder, four-stroke, air-cooled, petrol-powered radial engine. Producing , its design dates from the 1940s (Kotelnikov 2005), and is itself a development of the Ivchenko AI-14 engine. The engine has been used extensively by the Yakovlev and Sukhoi Design Bureaus. The M14P is also used in some experimental aircraft and kit designs such as the Murphy Moose, Radial Rocket, Pitts Model 12, and others. The M14PF is a version of the M14P. Design and development The engine's intake system uses a gear driven supercharger and an automatic-mixture type carburetor. Power is transmitted to the propeller via a reduction gearbox. In addition to the carburetor, the engine has a speed governor, two magnetos, mechanical fuel pump, generator, and an oil pump. It is started pneumatically, and remains fully operational during inverted flight. Unlike most American piston-type aero-engines, which turn to the right (clockwise) when viewed from the cockpi ...
