M. L. A. M. Hizbullah
Mahamood Lebbe Alim Mohamed Hizbullah (born 2 February 1963) is a Sri Lankan politician, MP and state minister. He was a minor presidential candidate in the 2019 presidential elections. Early life Hizbullah was born on 2 February 1963. He has a General Arts Qualification (GAQ) from the University of Peradeniya, and an M.A. degree from the University of Madras. Career Hizbullah was a member of Kattankudy Divisional Council. He was elected to the North Eastern Provincial Council at the 1988 provincial council election. Hizbullah contested the 1989 parliamentary election as a candidate of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) in the Batticaloa District. He was elected and entered Parliament. Eastern Provincial Council
The Eastern Provincial Council (EPC ''Kiḻakku Mākāṇa Capai''; “Nagenahira Palat Sabava”; EPC) is the provincial council for the Eastern Province in Sri Lanka. In accordance with the Sri Lankan constitution, EPC has legislative power over a variety of matters including agriculture, education, health, housing, local government, planning, road transport and social services. The constitution also gives it powers over police and land but successive central governments have refused to devolve these powers to the provinces. 1988 North Eastern Provincial Council Election
Provincial Council elections were held on 19 November 1988 to elect members to Sri Lanka’s North Eastern Provincial Council. Background The Indo-Lanka Accord signed on 29 July 1987 required the Sri Lankan government to devolve powers to the provinces and, in the meantime, to merge the Northern and Eastern provinces into one administrative unit. On 14 November 1987 the Sri Lankan Parliament passed the 13th Amendment to the 1978 Constitution of Sri Lanka and the Provincial Councils Act No 42 of 1987, establishing provincial councils. On September 2 and 8 1988 President Jayewardene issued proclamations enabling the Northern and Eastern provinces to be one administrative unit administered by one elected Council. 2019 Sri Lankan Presidential Election
Presidential elections were held in Sri Lanka on 16 November 2019. Incumbent president Maithripala Sirisena did not run for a second term. Gotabaya Rajapaksa, brother of former president Mahinda Rajapaksa, was the candidate of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna and was endorsed by the Sri Lanka Freedom Party. Sajith Premadasa, son of former president Ranasinghe Premadasa and deputy leader of the United National Party was the candidate of the ruling party. The results were announced on 17 November 2019. Rajapaksa won the election in a landslide victory, receiving 52% of the vote compared his main opponent Premadasa's 42%. The results of the election subsequently brought the Rajapaksa family back to power after a 5-year interregnum. Sirisena's term of office would have ended on 9 January 2020. The All Ceylon Makkal Congress (; ''Samasta Lanka Mahajana Kongrasaya'') is a registered political party in Sri Lanka. It was founded in 2005 by Rishad Bathiudeen. Since 2020, the All Ceylon Makkal Congress has been a constituent party of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB).
