M. George Henry
Matthew George Henry (October 25, 1910March 19, 1975) was the third diocesan bishop of Western North Carolina in The Episcopal Church, serving from September 29, 1948, until his death. Early life and education Henry was born on October 25, 1910, in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, the son of Dr George Kenneth Grant, professor of Latin and later assistant registrar at the University of North Carolina, and Mary Elizabeth Harding who was descendant from a line of Episcopal clergymen. Henry attended the public schools in Chapel Hill and then studied at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in chemistry in 1931. He became a member of Phi Beta Kappa, and after graduation he held a teaching fellowship at the University of South Carolina. Episcopal Diocese Of Western North Carolina
The Episcopal Diocese of Western North Carolina is a diocese in the Episcopal Church. It consists of 28 counties in western North Carolina and its episcopal see is in Asheville, North Carolina, seated at the Cathedral of All Souls. The first recorded worship from the Book of Common Prayer west of the Catawba River was in 1786. Valle Crucis, where one of the two conference centers is located, began as a missionary outpost in 1842. In 1894, a resolution was adopted in the Convention of the Diocese of North Carolina that the Western part of the state be set aside and offered to the General Church as a Missionary District. The following year, in November 1895, the first Convention of the District of Asheville was held at Trinity Church in Asheville. Tarboro is a town located in Edgecombe County, North Carolina, United States. It is part of the Rocky Mount metropolitan area. Calvary Episcopal Church and Churchyard is a historic Episcopal church located at 411 E. Church Street in Tarboro, Edgecombe County, North Carolina. The church was built between 1860 and 1867, and is a one-story, rectangular Gothic Revival style building. Attached to the church is a Parish House built in 1922, and designed by architect Hobart Upjohn. Located adjacent to the church is an arboretum dating to 1842, that includes number of gravestones. Stoneville, North Carolina
Stoneville is a town in Rockingham County, North Carolina, United States. Stoneville is part of the Greensboro–High Point metropolitan area of the Piedmont Triad. At the 2020 United States census, the town had a population of 1,308. History Settlers came to the ridge between the Mayo and Dan rivers in the northwest Piedmont region in the early 1800s. In 1827, the Deep Springs Plantation was built for James Madison Scales and his wife Elizabeth Lesuer in what is now Stoneville. In 1843 the R.H. Lewis Tobacco company was established in the south side of the land that was to become the town of Stoneville. In the late 1850s, brothers Thomas and Pinkney Stone bought land in the area. Walnut Cove is a town in Stokes County, North Carolina, Stokes County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,536 at the 2020 United States census, 2020 census.
