M31 Motorway
The M31 was planned as a Reading, Berkshire, Reading to M3 motorway (Great Britain), M3 motorway which was dubbed the 'M3 – M4 motorway, M4 link motorway'. It would have provided a direct high-speed route between the two motorways. The motorway was planned at the same time as the largely unrealised London Ringways scheme and an additional section was planned that would have taken the M31 south and east from the M3 to connect to the scheme's London Ringways#Ringway 4, Ringway 4 (now the M25 motorway, M25) providing a shorter route for traffic travelling between the west and Surrey and Kent. Only part of the planned route was built; it bears the designations A329(M) motorway, A329(M) and A3290 road, A3290. Had the motorway been constructed it would have provided an alternative to the south-west section of the M25, reducing the motorway journey between Reading and Byfleet by approximately and alleviating traffic on what is the M25's busiest section.

MGR-1 Honest John
The MGR-1 Honest John rocket was the first nuclear weapon, nuclear-capable surface-to-surface rocket in the United States arsenal. The first nuclear-authorized ''guided'' missile was the MGM-5 Corporal. Its designation was changed to M31 in September 1953. The first Army units received their rockets by year's end and Honest John battalions were deployed in Europe in early 1954. Alternatively, the rocket was capable of carrying an ordinary high-explosive warhead weighing . History and development Developed at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama, the Honest John was a large but simple Vertical stabilizer, fin-stabilized, Rocket artillery, unguided artillery rocket weighing in its initial M31 nuclear-armed version. Mounted on the back of a truck, the rocket was aimed in much the same way as a cannon and then fired up an elevated ramp, igniting fo ...

2,147,483,647
The number 2147483647 is the eighth Mersenne prime, equal to 231 − 1. It is one of only four known double Mersenne primes. The primality of this number was proven by Leonhard Euler, who reported the proof in a letter to Daniel Bernoulli written in 1772. Euler used trial division, improving on Pietro Cataldi's method, so that at most 372 divisions were needed. It thus improved upon the previous record-holding prime, 6,700,417 – also discovered by Euler – forty years earlier. The number 2,147,483,647 remained the largest known prime until 1867. In computing, this number is the largest value that a signed 32-bit integer field can hold. Barlow's prediction At the time of its discovery, 2,147,483,647 was the largest known prime number. In 1811, Peter Barlow wrote (in ''An Elementary Investigation of the Theory of Numbers''): Euler ascertained that 231 − 1 = 2147483647 is a prime number; and this is the greatest at present known to be such, and, co ...

HMS Cattistock (M31)
HMS ''Cattistock'', the third ship of this name, is a of the Royal Navy. She was launched in 1981 and commissioned on 5 March 1982, the third ship of her class. Operational history In 1991, she was placed under the command of Sir George Zambellas, who was First Sea Lord from 2013 until 2016. In July 1997 she suffered an engine room fire and was under repair at Rosyth Dockyard for 14 months. In September 1999 she replaced the minehunter in the NATO Mine Countermeasures Force North West Europe. She was mentioned in the media in December 2002 after colliding with a jetty as she was leaving her homeport of HMNB Portsmouth in late November. She was left with a hole in her side, although no crew were hurt in the collision. It was the third such collision that year: the submarine ran aground off the Isle of Skye earlier in November and the destroyer hit rocks off the coast of Australia in July. In 2012 she assisted in the location of two Royal Air Force Panavia Tornados which ...

M31 (missile)
The M270 Multiple Launch Rocket System (M270 MLRS) is an American armored self-propelled multiple launch rocket system. The U.S. Army variant of the M270 is based on the chassis of the Bradley Fighting Vehicle. The first M270s were delivered in 1983, and were adopted by several NATO and non-NATO militaries. The platform first saw service with the United States in the 1991 Gulf War. It has received multiple improvements since its inception, including the ability to fire guided missiles. M270s provided by the United Kingdom have seen use in the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Description Background In the early 1970s, the Soviet Union had a clear advantage over U.S. and NATO forces in terms of rocket artillery. Soviet doctrine dictated large-scale bombardment of a target area with large numbers of truck-mounted multiple rocket launchers (MRLs), such as the BM-21 "Grad". By contrast, U.S. artillerists favored conventional large-caliber artillery for its relative accuracy and l ...

M3 Lee
The M3 Lee, officially Medium Tank, M3, was an American medium tank used during World War II. The turret was produced in two different forms, one for US needs and one modified to British requirements to place the radio next to the commander. In British Commonwealth service, the tank was called by two names: tanks employing US-pattern turrets were called "Lee", named after Confederate general Robert E. Lee, while those with British-pattern turrets were known as "Grant", named after Union general Ulysses S. Grant. Design commenced in July 1940, and the first M3s were operational in late 1941. The US Army needed a medium tank armed with a 75 mm gun and coupled with the United Kingdom's immediate demand for 3,650 medium tanks, the Lee began production by late 1940. The design was a compromise meant to produce a tank as soon as possible and serve only until replaced by the following M4 Sherman tank. The M3 was reliable, had considerable firepower, good armor, and high mobility b ...

M-31 (Michigan Highway)
M-31 was a state trunkline highway in the Lower Peninsula in the US state of Michigan. It generally ran north from Port Huron along the Lake Huron shoreline through The Thumb region before turning inland. The highway crossed The Thumb and then ran along the Saginaw Bay shoreline before running inland again, terminating at Saginaw. It was one of the original state highways signposted in 1919, but it was renumbered as other highways in 1926, decommissioning the designation in the process. Parts of its route are now M-24, M-25, M-81 and M-142. Route description M-31 started at M-21 in Port Huron and ran northward along the Lake Huron shoreline. Along the way, it intersected the western terminus of M-46 before reaching Harbor Beach. In town, the original M-27 merged in from the north, and M-27/M-31 ran concurrently westward, turning inland. The two highways separated north of Ruth as M-27 turned southward. M-31 continued across The Thumb through Bad Axe, where it ran c ...

M31 HEAT Rifle Grenade
The M31 HEAT is a fin-stabilized anti-tank rifle grenade designed in the late 1950s to replace the Belgian ENERGA rifle grenade which was adopted by the US Army and US Marines as an emergency stop-gap measure during the Korean War. Like the ENERGA, it has a nose-initiated, based-detonated HEAT warhead, but unlike the ENERGA, the mechanical impact fuse system is replaced with a less complex and more reliable piezo-electric fuse system which also allows higher angles of impact, up to 65 degrees. History The M31 was originally designed to be fired only from the M1 Garand, but could also be fired from both the M14 and M16 rifles.Article title
, Limited Range Test of the M16 Rifle with Eight Types of Rifle and Hand Grenades. By Dewey Calfee. January 1965. Dir ...
