Lohagara Upazila, Chittagong
Lohagara ( bn, লোহাগাড়া) is an upazila of Chattogram District in Chattogram Division, Bangladesh. Lohagara is situated between Chattogram and Cox's Bazar. It is one of the largest and most densely populated upazilas of Bangladesh. Etymology In 1660, Mughal prince Shah Shuja took shelter in the Kingdom of Arakan to escape from Mir Jumla II. While heading to Arakan, he stayed in a beautiful hilly place (present-day Chunati) between Chittagong and Cox's Bazar for a few days. At the time of departure, he engraved an iron bar in that place as a sign. It is thought that because of engraving iron bar by Shah Shuja the area is called 'Lohagara' since 'Loha' means 'iron'. Mir Jumla II
Mir Jumla II (1591 – 30 March 1663) was a prominent subahdar of Bengal under the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. Early life Mir Jumla was born as Mir Mohammad Sayyid Ardistani in Iran in 1591 to a poor oil merchant of Isfahan named Mirza Hazaru. Although his parents were extremely poor, he had the opportunity to learn letters which probably lead him to find a job as a clerk under a diamond merchant who had connections with the Kingdom of Golkonda. (present day Hyderabad). The region was famous for its diamond mines. Later he came to Golconda as early as before 1630. He emigrated to Golconda due to the financial debts exacted upon him by one Sheikh ul Islam and general misgovernance in his country. He started his own diamond business and got involved in maritime commercial endeavours which increased his wealth. Adhunagar Union ( bn, আধুনগর ইউনিয়ন) is a union of Lohagara Upazila, Chittagong District, Bangladesh. It is a union of Lohagara upazila of Chittagong district, surrounded by rivers, hills, green ornaments and natural reservoirs. The Dolu River, Uzir Deba and the nearby Kazir Deba and the adjacent Rafiya Mura, both sides of the Cox's Bazar highway, are very interesting. Union council ( bn, ইউনিয়ন পরিষদ, translit=iūniyan pariṣad, translit-std=IAST), also known as union parishad, rural council, rural union and simply union, is the smallest rural administrative and local government unit in Bangladesh. Each union council is made up of nine wards. Usually one village is designated as a ward. There are 4,562 unions in Bangladesh. 2011 Bangladesh Census
In 2011, the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics, conducted a national census in Bangladesh, which provided a provisional estimate of the total population of the country as 142,319,000. The previous decennial census was the 2001 census. Data were recorded from all of the districts and upazilas and main cities in Bangladesh including statistical data on population size, households, sex and age distribution, marital status, economically active population, literacy and educational attainment, religion, number of children etc. Bangladesh and India also conducted their first joint census of areas along their border in 2011. According to the census, Hindus constituted 8.5 per cent of the population as of 2011, down from 9.6 per cent in the 2001 census. Bangladesh have a population of 144,043,697 as per 2011 census report. Chunati Wildlife Sanctuary
Chunati Wildlife Sanctuary is an IUCN Category IV protected area located close to the village of Chunati in the Chittagong District of the Chittagong Division in southeastern Bangladesh. History The Sanctuary was established in 1986 through Gazette Notification XII/For-I/84/174. Covering nearly 7764 hectares, the predominant vegetation was originally garjan forest, but illegal logging and encroachment for cultivation resulted in a fragmented and degraded habitat. By 2003, secondary scrub covered approximately 44% of the Sanctuary, but various replanting projects have been undertaken with donor support. This was the first wildlife sanctuary in Bangladesh. There are 15 villages in and around the Sanctuary. The Sanctuary is home to several endangered timber species.
