Erich Lüth
Erich Lüth (1 February 1902 – 1 April 1989) was a German writer and film director who was born in Hamburg. Career Lüth began his career in 1923 as an intern in the editorial staff of the Hamburger Ullstein Verlag Berlin his education. Subsequently, he was editor of the ''Hamburger Anzeiger'' and chairman of the Hamburg Young Democrats. In 1928 he was the DDP member of the Hamburg Parliament. In addition, Lüth was a member of the German Peace Society and was active in his party's pacifist wing and fell within the Young Democrats (Italy), Young Democrats and the DDP on the basis of a call for military service in 1929. In spring 1930 Lüth left the DDP and in the same year joined the inaugural Radical Democratic Party (RDP). From 1933 to 1935 Lüth managed a trade association. In 1943, Lüth was drafted as a soldier and was captured, becoming a prisoner of war in Italy. Wolfgang Lüth
Wolfgang Lüth (15 October 1913 – 14 May 1945) was a German U-boat captain of World War II who was credited with the sinking of 46 merchant ships plus the sunk during 15 war patrols, for a total tonnage of . Lüth joined the ''Reichsmarine'' in 1933. After a period of training on surface vessels, he transferred to the U-boat service in 1936. In December 1939 he received command of , which he took on six war-patrols. In June 1940 he took command of for two patrols. In October 1940 he transferred again, this time to the ocean-going submarine for five war-patrols. After two patrols on , the second being his longest of the war, he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves, Swords and Diamonds. He was the first of two U-boat commanders to be so honored during World War II, the other recipient being Albrecht Brandi. Luth Enchantee (foaled 1980) was a French Thoroughbred racehorse and broodmare who was named the best horse in Europe over one mile in 1983. Her early career was undistinguished, as she won one minor event in her first eight races. In the summer of her three-year-old season she made rapid improvement, winning the Prix d'Astarte against her own sex and then defeating male opposition to win France's two most important all-aged mile races, the Prix Jacques Le Marois and the Prix du Moulin. In autumn she was moved up in distance and finished a close third to All Along in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. Her subsequent racing career was disappointing as she finished unplaced in her remaining seven starts. She made little impact as a broodmare.
