Långholmen FC
Långholmen FC is a Swedish football club based in Långholmen, Stockholm. Background Långholmen Football Club was formed in 2002 by a dozen or so English-speaking exiles looking for exercise and a chance to show their ability on a Saturday afternoon. The club is now an important part of the sporting and social life of the expatriate community in Stockholm with well over a hundred members. Since 2002 their teams have won five championships, eleven promotions and the Stockholm Korpen champions trophy. Their first team has climbed steadily up the Stockholm leagues. In 2010 they made it to the national league system and played in Division Three – a remarkable achievement for such a young club. However, 2011 saw them in Division Four again. In total, LFC have eight teams: six men's and two women's; regular structured training; casual kickabouts, a lively social network and a growing fan base. Division 4 is the sixth level in the league system of Swedish football and comprises 39 sections with 8 to 12 football teams in each. The competition There are 39 groups of 8 to 12 teams each representing a local geographical area. During the course of a season (starting in April and ending in October), each club plays the others twice, once at their home stadium and once at that of their opponents, for a total of 18 to 22 games depending on the number of teams. The top team in each Division 4 group is promoted to Division 3 and the three lowest placed teams from each Division 3 league are relegated in their place. Långholmen
Långholmen is an island between two other islands, Södermalm and Kungsholmen, in central Stockholm, Sweden. This island can be reached via two bridges; Pålsundsbron in the east and Långholmsbron in the west. Långholmen is a popular spot for walks, picnics and swimming. The small beaches, located right outside the former prison, are usually crowded in summer. History Långholmens spinnhus was a women's prison on Långholmen. The prison was established in 1649 when the Malmgården in Alstavik at Långholmen was erected and was closed in 1825. The building became state property in 1724 and was used as a spinning house (''spinnhus''). In 1825 the spinnhus was relocated to Norrmalm. The Stockholms Fotbollförbund (; StFF) is one of the 24 district organisations of the Swedish Football Association. It administers lower tier football in Stockholm County.
