Lázaro Álvarez
Lázaro Jorge Álvarez Estrada (born 28 January 1991) is a Cuban professional and amateur boxer. As an amateur, Álvarez won the world title in 2011, 2013 and 2015. He also won gold medals at the 2011, 2015, and 2019 Pan American Games and bronze medals at the 2012, 2016 and 2020 Olympics. He is a southpaw. His amateur record is currently 213-37, with 15 knockouts. Amateur career In the final of 2011 World Championships, he beat England's Luke Campbell after 3 rounds with 14–10 final score. Later that year he also won the 2011 Pan American title against Mexican Oscar Valdez. At the 2012 Summer Olympics, competing at bantamweight, he beat American Joseph Diaz and Robenílson Vieira of Brazil but lost to Irishman John Joe Nevin 14-19 in the semifinal and won bronze. Boxing At The 2019 Pan American Games
Boxing competitions at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima were held between July 27 and August 2, 2019 at the Miguel Grau Coliseum in the Villa Deportiva Regional del Callao cluster. The competition was split among 15 events, 10 for men and five for women. In 2016, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) made several changes to its sports program, which were subsequently implemented for these games. Included in this was the addition of two additional women's boxing events. Boxing At The 2015 Pan American Games
Boxing competitions at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto were held from July 18 to 25 at the General Motors Centre (Oshawa Sports Centre) in Oshawa. Due to naming rights the arena was known as the latter for the duration of the games. A total of thirteen boxing events will be held: ten for men and three for women. Venue The competitions will take place at the General Motors Centre (Oshawa Sports Centre) located about in the city of Oshawa, about 60 kilometers from the athletes village. The men's bantamweight competition of the boxing events at the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico, was held between October 21 and 28 at the Expo Guadalajara Arena. The defending champion was McWilliams Arroyo from Puerto Rico. Bantamweights were limited to those boxers weighing less than or equal to 56 kilograms. Like all Pan American boxing events, the competition was a straight single-elimination tournament. Both semifinal losers were awarded bronze medals, so no boxers competed again after their first loss. Bouts consisted of four rounds of two minutes each, with one-minute breaks between rounds. Punches scored only if the white area on the front of the glove made full contact with the front of the head or torso of the opponent. Five judges scored each bout; three of the judges had to signal a scoring punch within one second for the punch to score.
