''Lyubov Yarovaya'' () is a 1953 Soviet drama film directed by Yan Frid as film adaptation of the original stage production at Tovstonogov Bolshoi Drama Theater, Leningrad Bolshoi Drama Theater premiered in 1951. Both the stage production and its film adaptation were based on a 1926 play of the same name by Konstantin Trenyov, which was later adapted a second time as a 1970 film made at Lenfilm studios and starring a new generation of actors. The 1953 film was the most popular film released in the Soviet Union that year, with attendance of more than 46 million.Rollberg p.249 Plot Set during the Russian Civil War in Crimea, the film follows the tensions and betrayals within a small town under Red Army, Red control. Yan Frid
Yan Borisovich Frid (; 1908–2003) was a Soviet screenwriter and film director. Life and career Yan Borisovich Frid was born on May 31 in 1908 in Krasnoyarsk. In 1932 he graduated from the directing department of the Russian State Institute of Performing Arts, Leningrad Theatrical Institute (workshop of Vladimir Solovyov), and in 1938, from the VGIK, where his mentor was Sergei Eisenstein. Since 1938, the director started working at Lenfilm, where he made his debut with a short film based on Anton Chekhov, Anton Chekhov's short story "Surgery." Then he made the children's adventure film "Patriot". Starting from October 1941 he participated in the Great Patriotic War. Between January 1944 and May 1945 he was head of the Army House of the Red Army of the 15th Air Army. He fought on the Leningrad and 2nd Baltic fronts.
