Lyon Metro
The Lyon Metro (french: Métro de Lyon) is a rapid transit system serving Lyon Metropolis, France. First opened in 1974, it currently consists of four lines, serving 40 stations and comprising of route. Part of the Transports en Commun Lyonnais (TCL) system of public transport, it is supported by two funiculars and a tramway network. Unlike other French metro systems, but like RER and other SNCF services, Lyon Metro trains run on the left. This is the result of an unrealised project to run the metro into the suburbs on existing railway lines. The loading gauge for all lines is , more generous than the average for metros in Europe. The Lyon Metro owes its inspiration to the Montreal Metro which was built a few years prior; it has similar (narrower) rubber-wheel cars. Daily weekday ridership was 740,000 in 2011. Hôtel De Ville – Louis Pradel (Lyon Métro)
Hôtel de Ville – Louis Pradel is a transfer station in the Lyon Metro, providing a connection between Line A and Line C. The station is located in the Presqu'île district in Lyon, France. Serving Lyon's 1st arrondissement, the station is near Lyon City Hall with access to Place des Terreaux, Opéra Nouvel, Museum of Fine Arts of Lyon, and other nearby attractions. The station is a major interchange and is Line C's southern terminus providing its only connection with the rest of the metro system. History Hôtel de Ville – Louis Pradel station opened on May 2, 1978. Lyon Metropolis
The Metropolis of Lyon (french: Métropole de Lyon), also known as ("Greater Lyon"), is a French territorial collectivity located in the east-central region of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. It is a directly elected metropolitan authority encompassing the city of Lyon and most of its suburbs. It has jurisdiction as both a department and a , taking the territory out of the purview of the department of Rhône. It had a population of 1,411,571 in 2019, 37% of whom lived in the city of Lyon proper. It replaced the Urban Community of Lyon on 1 January 2015, in accordance with the enacted in January 2014. The first direct metropolitan elections were held in March (1st round) and June (2nd round) 2020, leading to a victory by Europe Ecology – The Greens. Rubber-tyred Metro
A rubber-tyred metro or rubber-tired metro is a form of rapid transit system that uses a mix of road and rail technology. The vehicles have wheels with rubber tires that run on rolling pads inside guide bars for traction, as well as traditional railway steel wheels with deep flanges on steel tracks for guidance through conventional switches as well as guidance in case a tyre fails. Most rubber-tyred trains are purpose-built and designed for the system on which they operate. Guided buses are sometimes referred to as 'trams on tyres', and compared to rubber-tyred metros. History The first idea for rubber-tyred railway vehicles was the work of Scotsman Robert William Thomson, the original inventor of the pneumatic tyre. Lyon-Vaise Station
Lyon-Vaise station ( French: ''Gare de Lyon-Vaise'') is a railway station in Lyon, located in the district of Vaise, in the 9th arrondissement. The station is on the historical Paris–Lyon–Marseille (PLM) main line; it is also served by Lyon Metro Line D of which it is the northwestern terminus. History From 10 July 1854 until the opening of the Saint-Irenée tunnel between Vaise and Perrache railway station on 10 October 1856, the station was the Lyon terminus of trains from Chalon-sur-Saône and Paris. Lyon-Vaise was destroyed during the bombings of 26 May 1944. It was provisionally rebuilt in wood, then a new station was opened in 1956. In 1997, a new multimodal space was built to facilitate connections between the train, metro and bus.
