Faisalabad District (Lyallpur District until 1979) ( Punjabi and ) is one of the districts of Punjab, Pakistan. According to the 2023 census of Pakistan it had a population of 9,075,819, of which 3,691,999 were in Faisalabad City. It is the third largest city of Pakistan after Karachi and Lahore. James Broadwood Lyall
Sir James Broadwood Lyall (4 March 1838 – 4 December 1916) was a British administrator in the Imperial Civil Service who served as Lieutenant Governor of the Punjab between 1887 and 1892. Background James Lyall was born on 4 March 1838. He was a son of Alfred Lyall and Mary Drummond. His elder brother was Alfred Comyn Lyall, and his paternal uncles included a Dean of Canterbury, William Rowe Lyall, and a chairman of the British East India Company, George Lyall. He was educated first at Eton College and then at Haileybury College. Imperial Civil Service Career He joined the Bengal Civil Service in 1857, arriving in India the following year. Clock Tower, Faisalabad
The Faisalabad Clock Tower ( Punjabi, ), formerly known as the Lyallpur Clock Tower, is a clock tower in Faisalabad, Punjab, Pakistan, and is one of the oldest monuments still standing in its original state from the period of the British Raj. It was built in 1905 by the British, when they ruled much of South Asia during the early 20th century. The decision to build the clock tower on this spot was made by the then Jhang deputy commissioner Sir James Lyall. The foundation of the majestic Clock Tower was laid on 14 November 1905 by the British lieutenant governor of Punjab Sir Charles Montgomery Rivaz. A water well formerly existed at the exact location of the Clock Tower which was filled with earth.
