Lviv Anti-Fascist Congress Of Cultural Workers
Lviv Anti-Fascist Congress of Cultural Workers was an event that brought together the progressive intellectuals of Poland, Western Ukraine, and Western Belarus. It took place on May 16-17, 1936 in Lviv, being organized by the Communist Party of Poland along with the Communist Party of Western Ukraine in order to create the united front against Fascism. Background In Paris in 1935, the International Anti-Fascist Congress of Writers took place, led by, among others, Romain Rolland, André Gide, Andre Malraux. The meeting called for organizing local unions and meetings of intellectuals whose goal was to defend culture from fascism. The idea to organize such a Congress in Poland was the reply to that call. Besides, the Lviv Congress of 1936 was a political event implementing the recommendations of the 7th Comintern World Congress of 1935 on the organization of Popular Fronts. Ukrainian ( uk, украї́нська мо́ва, translit=ukrainska mova, label=native name, ) is an East Slavic language of the Indo-European language family. Tadeusz Hollender
Tadeusz Hollender (30 May 1910 – 31 May 1943) was a Polish poet, translator and humorist. During World War II, he wrote satirical articles and poems in underground press, for that he was arrested by the German Gestapo and executed in May in the infamous prison, Pawiak. In 1929-1933 he studied law and Polish philology at the Jan Kazimierz University in Lviv (studies did not finish). In 1929 he made his debut as a poet. Since 1933 he worked in the editorial staff of "Yesterday – Today – Tomorrow". Co-founder, and later editor of " Signals"; he also wrote to "Pins". In 1937, he moved to Warsaw. In 1938 he traveled in Palestine, Greece, Turkey and Romania, sending reports to national magazines. In 1939, again in Lviv, where he became famous for his refusal to sign the servile declaration of Polish writers, welcoming the "reunification" of Ukraine. Aleksander Weintraub (pen name Aleksander Dan; 6 January 1897 – 1943) was a Polish poet and writer, from a Jewish family from Lwów Lviv ( uk, Львів) is the largest city in western Ukraine, and the seventh-largest in Ukraine, with a population of . Emil Zegadłowicz (20 July 1888 – 24 February 1941) was a Polish poet, prose writer, novelist, playwright, translator, expert of art; co-originator of Polish expressionism, member of expressionists' group ''Zdrój'', co-founder of group ''Czartak''. Halina Krahelska
Halina Krahelska (12 June 1892, Odessa – 1945, Ravensbrück) was a Polish activist, publicist and writer. Biography Halina Krahelska, a member of the Polish Socialist Party, was arrested by the Russian authorities and deported to Russia, where she joined the Trudoviks and took part in the Russian Revolution of 1917. Afterwards, she returned to independent Poland, where she became a socialist activist, particularly interested in the issues of social welfare (such as maternity leave), and an activist of the Democratic Party (Poland) (SD). She also wrote novels. During World War II, she joined the Polish resistance ( Armia Krajowa). Arrested by the Germans, she was sent to the Ravensbrück concentration camp, where she wrote several works, some related to her experiences in the camp, others continuing her work as a socialist activist. Andrzej Gronowicz (born March 7, 1951 in Piła) is a Polish sprint canoer who competed in the 1970s. Competing in two Summer Olympics, he won a silver medal in the C-2 500 m event at Montreal in 1976.
