Lutsk Border Detachment
The Lutsk Border Detachment (9971) is a brigade level detachment of the Western Department of the State Border Service of Ukraine. The detachment guards the Poland-Ukraine border and the Ukraine-Belarus border in two Raions (Varash Raion and Sarny Raion) of Rivne Oblast and two Raions (Varash Raion and Kovel Raion) of Volyn Oblast. The detachment guards a total border length of 545.5 km, 395 km in Volyn Oblast including 190 km with Poland, including 128 km along the Western Bug River and 205 km with Belarus and 150.5 km in Rivne Oblast with Belarus. History It was established on 20 October 1992 on the basis of the 1st border commandant's office of the Lviv border detachment and started operations on 1 January 1993 with Colonel Arkady Semenovych Yavorsky as its first commander. Hero Of Ukraine
A Hero of Ukraine (HOU; ) is the highest national decoration that can be conferred upon an individual citizen by the president of Ukraine. The decoration was created in 1998 by President Leonid Kuchma. As of 6 June 2025, the total number of recipients had been 1109. Additionally, at least 29 decrees assigned have not been published. Avdiivka
Avdiivka (, ; , ) is a city in Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine. The city is located in the centre of the oblast, just north of the regional centre, Donetsk. The large Avdiivka Coke Plant is located in Avdiivka. The city had a population of before the Russian invasion of Ukraine, but it was reported as 1,600 in October 2023, and then "just over 1,000", mostly living below ground level. Avdiivka was within the claimed boundaries of the separatist Donetsk People's Republic, before Russia declared its Russian annexation of Donetsk, Kherson, Luhansk and Zaporizhzhia oblasts of Ukraine, annexation of the region in September 2022. Fights on the Ukrainian–Russian border in 2014, also called the Operation to restore the state border, the Battle at the border, the Battle in sector D, the Izvarinsky Encirclement, and the Dovzhansky Encirclement, was a phase of the war in Donbas in which the Armed Forces of Ukraine fought Russia, Russian-backed Russian separatist forces in Ukraine, separatist forces over control of Anti-Terrorist Operation Zone (Ukraine), areas of Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts. Fighting broke out in Sector D of the anti-terrorist operation during the "operation to restore the state border" during June–August 2014.
