Lungleg (band)
Lung Leg are a Scottish pop-punk/indie music, indie band formed in 1994 and disbanding in 1999. They emerged as part of a new wave of bands from the Glasgow DIY underground scene. Originally an all-female band, all female quartet, their musical style has been described variably as riot grrrl or ''garage rock, garage-pop''. They were influenced by post-punk, C86 (music), C86, and the Fire Engines. Lung Leg re-formed in 2021 with a sold out reunion gig at The Baby Grand, Glasgow in December 2022 to critical acclaim supported by ''Bis (Scottish band), bis''. They are featured in the award winning 2024 documentary ''Since Yesterday (film), Since Yesterday : The Untold Story'' and consequently performed ''Maid to Minx'' live on BBC Radio 4's Front Row with Kirsty Wark in October 2024. Jaime Hernandez
Jaime (sometimes spelled Xaime) Hernandez (born 1959) is the co-creator of the alternative comic book '' Love and Rockets'' with his brothers Gilbert and Mario. Early life Jaime Hernandez grew up in Oxnard, California.Aldama, p. 119. He is the youngest of his family, with four older brothers and one sister. His family embraced comics: their mother read them frequently and old issues were kept in large quantities in the house, to be read and re-read by all over the years. "We grew up with comics," Hernandez said. "I wanted to draw comics my whole life." They read all types of comics and enjoyed those that gave a fairly realistic depiction of family life as well as the standard superhero adventures. Hernandez was particularly influenced by Hank Ketcham's ''Dennis the Menace'' and Dan DeCarlo's ''Archie''' comics. Urusei Yatsura (band)
Urusei Yatsura were a Scottish rock band formed in Glasgow in 1993. History Founding members Fergus Lawrie and Graham Kemp met in the summer of 1993, whilst attending the University of Glasgow. They recruited Elaine Graham as bassist, and the line-up was completed with the subsequent addition of Elaine's brother, Ian Graham, on drums. They took their band name from the manga ''Urusei Yatsura'', written by Rumiko Takahashi, and contributed their first recording, "Guitars Are Boring", to a compilation album released by the Kazoo Club. This was based in Glasgow, and run at one point by the future Franz Ferdinand singer Alex Kapranos. This record in turn brought them to the attention of the BBC Radio DJ John Peel, who brought them in to do a session in 1994. They recorded four Peel Sessions, between Glasgow and Maida Vale Studios, as well as appearing on the Evening Session for Steve Lamacq. The Yummy Fur
: ''See also Yummy Fur (comic) by Chester Brown..'' The Yummy Fur were a Scottish indie rock band from Glasgow, formed in 1992, and disbanded 1999. The band consisted of lead singer and guitarist John McKeown and a regularly changing line-up of other musicians. McKeown has since gone on to form the band 1990s. Their name was taken from the comic book '' Yummy Fur'' by Chester Brown. After leaving the band in 1997, Lawrence Worthington would drum for both The Male Nurse and The Fall-influenced art punk band Country Teasers. Three future members of internationally successful Glasgow indie band Franz Ferdinand played in The Yummy Fur. Drummer Paul Thomson who joined the band in 1997, and multi-instrumentalist Alex Kapranos Huntley, who joined in 1998, were founder members of Franz Ferdinand, and Dino Bardot would join Franz Ferdinand as guitarist in 2017 to replace Nick McCarthy. Vesuvius Records was a British independent record label, based in Glasgow, Scotland, between 1995 and 1998. The label signed small local bands. Their first release ''In Spelunca'', was a compilation showcase featuring The Yummy Fur, Lungleg, Sally Skull, Hello Skinny and others. Despite low production value, the record aimed to celebrate new bands from disparate backgrounds. Founded jointly by band members and local artists and activists Pat Crook, Brian MacDougall, and illustrator Marc Baines, the label took care in every aspect of packaging and design often hand-printing and assembling records from their bedroom headquarters. Kill Rock Stars is an independent record label founded in February 1991 by Slim Moon and Tinuviel Sampson, and based in both Olympia, Washington, and Portland, Oregon. The label has released a variety of work in different genres, but it was originally known for its commitment to underground punk rock bands and the Olympia area music scene. ''Melody Maker'' was a British weekly music magazine, one of the world's earliest music weeklies; according to its publisher, IPC Media, the earliest. The Raincoats
The Raincoats are a British post-punk band formed in 1977. They were founded by Ana da Silva (vocals, guitar) and Gina Birch (vocals, bass) while the two were students at Hornsey College of Art in London. Other prominent members have included Vicky Aspinall (violin, vocals, keyboards), Palmolive (drums), and Richard Dudanski (drums). Alexander Paul Kapranos (born 20 March 1972) is a Scottish musician. He is the lead singer and lead guitarist of Scottish rock band Franz Ferdinand. He has also been a part of the supergroups FFS and BNQT. Early life Alexander Paul Kapranos Huntley was born on 20 March 1972 in Almondsbury, South Gloucestershire, the son of an English mother and Greek father. As a two-month-old he moved to Sunderland, moving to Scotland when he was a child. Chemikal Underground
Chemikal Underground is an independent record label set up in 1994 at Glasgow, Scotland, by rock band The Delgados. It was set up to release their first single, "Monica Webster" / "Brand New Car" and went on to break many new Scottish bands in the nineties. When the second Chemikal Underground release by Bis, '' The Secret Vampire Soundtrack EP'' was successful, earning them a slot on ''Top of the Pops'', the label was able to expand. To date, ''The Secret Vampire Soundtrack'' is the only Top 40 hit released on Chemikal Underground. Further success followed with the debut albums by Mogwai and Arab Strap.
