Luke Patience
Luke Patience (born 4 August 1986) is a British Olympic sailor. He competed with Stuart Bithell at the 2012 Summer Olympics, and the team won a silver medal. Personal life Patience was born on 4 August 1986, in Aberdeen, Scotland. Sailing Patience and Stuart Bithell were selected to compete for Great Britain at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, United Kingdom in the men's 470 class ahead of Chris Grube and Nick Rogers. heading into the final race of the event the pair were guaranteed at least a silver medal but had to beat the leading Australian crew of Mathew Belcher and Malcolm Page with a boat between them in order to take gold. Patience and Bithell finished fourth in the race with the Australian's second, meaning they took the silver medal. Stuart Bithell
Stuart Bithell (born 28 August 1986 in Rochdale) is a British sailor and Olympic champion. He competed with Luke Patience in the 470 class at the 2012 Summer Olympics where he won a silver medal and in the 2020 Summer Olympics where he won a gold medal in the Men's 49er class with Dylan Fletcher. In 2013, it was announced that Bithell and Patience would part ways, their aim for 470 gold no longer viable. While Patience continued in the 470, Bithell moved on to partner with John Pink in the 49er class. They failed to qualify for Rio 2016, losing out to Dylan Fletcher and Alain Sign. After Rio, Pink and Sign both left the class. This resulted in Bithell and Fletcher teaming up. The decision was made in Portland, while the two competed against each other in the Moth class. 49er (dinghy)
The 49er and 49er FX is a two-handed skiff-type high-performance sailing dinghy. The two crew work on different roles with the helm making many tactical decisions, as well as steering, and the crew doing most of the sail control. Both of the crew are equipped with their own trapeze and sailing is done while cantilevered over the water to the fullest extent to balance against the sails. The 49er was designed by Julian Bethwaite (the son of Frank Bethwaite) and developed by a consortium consisting of Bethwaites, Performance Sailcraft Japan, Peter Johnston, and Ovington boats. Malcolm Page (sailor)
Malcolm George Page, OAM (born 22 March 1972) is an Australian professional sailor and gold medalist at the 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games. Personal life Page was educated at St Andrew's Cathedral School in Sydney. After retiring from Olympic sailing, Page went on to work for World Sailing as Head of Media, before becoming Chief of Olympic Sailing for US Sailing. He then returned to Australia as the Head Coach of the Victorian Institute of Sport Sailing program. He is currently coaching with the Australian Sailing Team. Mathew Belcher
Mathew "Mat" Belcher, (born 20 September 1982) is an Australian sailor and a two-time Olympic gold medalist in the 470 dinghy, who currently competes with crew Will Ryan. In 2011, following World Championship and World Cup success, he and Malcolm Page were shortlisted by the International Sailing Federation for the ISAF World Sailor of the Year Awards. Belcher was selected as the Australian flag bearer for the closing ceremony of the 2020 Summer Olympics after winning a second gold medal and third successive medal in the 470 class.
