Luka Korlaet
Luka Korlaet (born 14 September 1974) is a Croatian architect, urbanist and politician who has served as deputy mayor of Zagreb together with Danijela Dolenec since 2021, under mayor Tomislav Tomašević. Life Early life and education Korlaet was born in 1974 in Zagreb. He graduated from the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Zagreb in 2001 with a degree in architecture and urbanism. Career Korlaet was a member of the Executive Board of the Zagreb Society of Architects and the Assembly of the Association of Croatian Architects from 2009 to 2011. From 2014 to 2021, he was the member of National Committee of Europan Croatia. He is an associate professor at the Faculty of Architecture. He worked on multiple architectural designs and on a scientific journal. Zagreb Assembly
The City Assembly of the City of Zagreb (, short: GSGZ) is the lawmaking body of the Croatian capital of Zagreb. It consists of 47 members who were elected by universal suffrage and secret ballot at 2021 elections for a term of four years. The assembly meets at the Old City Hall, close to the St. Mark's Square. This representative body passes acts within the self-governing scope of the City of Zagreb and performs other duties in accordance with the state laws and its own Statute. The assembly serves as a check against the mayor in a mayor-council government model. It has 24 permanent and occasional working bodies with oversight of various functions of the city government. The University of Zagreb (, ) is a public university, public research university in Zagreb, Croatia. It is the largest Croatian university and one of the oldest continuously operating universities in Europe. The University of Zagreb and the University North are the only public universities operating in Northern Croatia, Northern and Central Croatia. The history of the University began on September 23, 1669, when the Holy Roman Emperor Leopold I, Holy Roman Emperor, Leopold I issued a decree granting the establishment of the ''Jesuit Academy of the Royal Free City of Zagreb''. The Croatian Parliament () or the Sabor is the Unicameralism, unicameral legislature of Croatia. Under the terms of the Constitution of Croatia, Croatian Constitution, the Sabor represents the nation, people and is vested with legislative power. Danijela Dolenec (born 4 August 1977) is a Croatian political scientist and politician who has served as deputy mayor of Zagreb since 2021, together with Luka Korlaet. A member of Zagreb is OURS! and the green-left political platform We Can!, she has been a member of the Croatian Parliament since 2024, but is currently being represented by her deputy Jelena Miloš. Early life and education Danijela Dolenec was born in 1977 in Zagreb and grew up as a punk fan in Dubrava. She graduated from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Zagreb in 2001, with a degree in English Language and Comparative Literature. Tomislav Tomašević (; born 13 January 1982) is a Croatian politician, activist, environmentalist and political scientist who has served as the 53rd List of mayors of Zagreb, mayor of Zagreb since 2021. Europan is a biennial competition for young architects under 40 years of age to design innovative housing and urban planning for sites across Europe. It is considered the world's largest (and the smartest) competition in the field. The competition encourages architects to address social, cultural and economic changes occurring in towns and cities and offers the opportunity for cross-cultural learning and networking for the architects and site promoters involved. Structure The initiative was founded in 1989 and is supported by 19 European countries. 2020 Zagreb Earthquake
At approximately 6:24 AM Central European Time, CET on the morning of 22 March 2020, an earthquake of magnitude 5.3 , 5.5 , hit Zagreb, Croatia, with an epicenter north of the city centre. The maximum felt intensity was VII–VIII (''Very strong'' to ''Damaging'') on the Medvedev–Sponheuer–Karnik scale. The earthquake was followed by numerous aftershocks, the strongest of which with a magnitude of 5.0. It was the strongest earthquake in Zagreb since the 1880 Zagreb earthquake, 1880 earthquake and caused substantial damage in the historical city center. More than 1,900 buildings were reported to have been damaged to the point of becoming uninhabitable. The earthquake was also felt in Slovenia. At least 27 people were injured by the earthquake, including a teenage girl who later died from injuries caused by falling debris on 23 March. Milan Bandić
Milan Bandić (22 November 1955 – 28 February 2021) was a Croatian politician and the longest-serving mayor of Zagreb, the capital of Croatia. Bandić was mayor almost continuously from 2000 to 2021, except during the time between his resignation in 2002 and the 2005 election. He was also suspended from exercising his powers and duties for several months after his 2014 arrest over a corruption scandal.
