Luiz Garcia Jr.
Luiz Garcia Jr. (born May 4, 1971) is a Brazilian race car driver born in Brasilia. He began his racing career in karting, where he won three Brazilian titles (1986, 1987, 1988) and two runner-ups. He raced in the Brazilian Formula Ford 1600 in 1990 and 1991, in which he would become champion in his sophomore season, and British Formula Vauxhall in 1992 and 1993. In 1994 and 1995, he raced on European Formula 3. He then raced in the Indy Lights series in 1997 and 1998 finishing 13th and 12th in series points in his two seasons, capturing a single win in 1998 at Cleveland Grand Prix, Cleveland. He made his Champ Car, CART debut at the 1999 season opener at Homestead-Miami Speedway for Dale Coyne Racing. After 7 races with Coyne he moved to Hogan Racing where he made three more starts. The 2001 Firestone Firehawk 500 was a Championship Auto Racing Teams (CART) motor race held on May 19, 2001 at Twin Ring Motegi in Tochigi, Japan. It was the 5th round of the 2001 CART FedEx Championship Series season. Team Rahal driver Kenny Bräck scored his first career win in CART despite not starting on the front row for the first time that season. The 2001 Lehigh Valley Grand Prix, known informally as the 2001 Nazareth 225, was a Championship Auto Racing Teams (CART) motor race held on May 6, 2001 at Nazareth Speedway in Nazareth, Pennsylvania, USA. It was the 4th round of the 2001 CART season. Rookie Scott Dixon won the race by just four tenths of a second over Kenny Bräck, while Paul Tracy took third. Dixon scored his first and only CART win after he successfully gambled on a fuel-saving strategy that gave PacWest Racing its last win before the team folded in 2002 as well as its first win since 1997. Bräck's first podium of the season was the prelude to two consecutive wins at Motegi and Milwaukee, putting him solidly in the championship hunt. The Firestone Firehawk 600 was a CART series auto race scheduled for April 29, 2001 at the Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Texas, United States. It was scheduled for 248 laps around the oval at TMS. However, it was postponed and ultimately cancelled due to concerns about driver safety. It was the only race in CART history that was canceled outright for safety reasons. The race was sponsored by Firestone and Pioneer Corporation. The 2001 Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach was a Championship Auto Racing Teams (CART) motor race held on April 8, 2001 on the streets of Long Beach, California, USA. It was the 2nd round of the 2001 CART FedEx Championship Series season. Team Penske driver Hélio Castroneves led all 82 laps from pole position ahead of Monterrey winner Cristiano da Matta and Penske teammate Gil de Ferran to win his fourth career race. While Castroneves dominated the race from the front, his lead was threatened with each of the four caution periods throughout the race, which grouped the field together behind the pace car and erased the gap between each driver. The 2001 Tecate/Telmex Grand Prix of Monterrey was a Championship Auto Racing Teams (CART) motor race held on March 11, 2001 at Fundidora Park in Monterrey, Mexico in front of a crowd of 116,000 people. The 2000 Michigan 500 was the eleventh round of the twenty-round 2000 CART season. It happened at the Michigan International Speedway. The 2000 Rio 200 was a Champ Car, Championship Auto Racing Teams (CART) auto race held at the trapezoid-shaped Autódromo Internacional Nelson Piquet, Autódromo de Jacarepaguá, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on April 30, 2000.
