Luis Enrique Mendoza is a Colombian former professional boxer who competed between 1985 and 1998. Boxing career Amateur career Mendoza participated in the 1983 Pan American Games, he would lose in the first round to Dominican boxer Laureano Ramírez. Professional career Mendoza turned professional in 1985 & amassed a record of 26-2-2 before he challenged and beat compatriot Rubén Darío Palacio, to win the vacant WBA super bantamweight world title. Mendoza defended the title four times including against French boxer Fabrice Benichou. He would eventually lose the title to Mexico's Raúl Pérez. Juan José Estrada (November 28, 1963 – June 21, 2015) was a Mexican professional boxer in the Super Bantamweight division. He was the WBA Super Bantamweight Champion. Professional career In December 1987, Estrada won the WBC International title by stopping veteran Raul Payo Valdez in the tenth round. WBA Super Bantamweight Championship On May 28, 1988, Estrada won the WBA Super Bantamweight title by upsetting Bernardo Piñango over twelve rounds. He would defend the title three times against Takuya Muguruma, Jesus Poll & future champion Luis Mendoza. Estraded would lose the title to Filipino challenger Jesus Salud via disqualification in 1989. Ruben Darío "El Huracán" Palacio (1 December 1962 in Puerto Nare, Antioquia – 14 November 2003 in Medellín, Colombia) was a Colombian boxer. Professional career Palacio fought 11 years before surprisingly winning the WBO title in England with an eighth-round technical knockout of British star Colin McMillan after McMillan dislocated his shoulder on 26 September 1992. Before that, Palacio had tried unsuccessfully to win a world title on 3 occasions and never gave up on his dream, even when he had very low points in his career (between 1984 and 1986, for example, he lost 4 out of 5 fights). He was very much the underdog against the flashy 23-1 McMillan but Palacio had his night of glory that day in London.
