Luis Desangles
Luis Desangles Lubiles (8 February 1861 – 13 April 1940) was a Dominican painter, sculptor, and educator born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Instructor to many of the great native artists of the era, Desangles is remembered as one of the forerunners of Dominican national art and initiators of the country's c''ostumbrismo'' style. His artistic subjects range from portraits, pictorial daily life, religious iconography, historical depictions, naturalist landscapes, and still life. Many of his portraits are of influential political figures, such as Juan Pablo Duarte, Buenaventura Báez Méndez, Matías Ramón Mella, Francisco del Rosario Sánchez, Gregorio Luperón, Ulises Francisco Espaillat, and Eugenio María de Hostos. Pyrenees
The Pyrenees are a mountain range straddling the border of France and Spain. The Museo Bellapart is a free private art museum in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic specifically in located at the corner of Av. John F. Kennedy founded in 1999 and is situated inside of a car dealership. It was initially founded by Juan José Bellapart and currently still owned by the Bellapart family. Its large permanent collection includes artwork from the mid-19th century to the 1960s. Leopoldo Navarro (painter)
Leopoldo Navarro (1862 – July 12, 1908) was a Dominican Republic painter, educator, mathematician, and sculptor born in Santo Domingo in 1862. An impressionistic romantic, he is considered one of the forerunners of national Dominican plastic arts, as well as a notable educator. He died on July 12, 1908, in Santo Domingo, at the age of 46. In the Museum Bellapart, a collection of Navarro's watercolors are displayed. An important street in Santo Domingo is also named after him. Biography Navarro was born in 1862 in Santo Domingo.
