Luige is a small borough ( et, alevik) in Kiili Parish, Harju County, in northern Estonia, located about south from the centre of Tallinn. As of the 2011 census, the settlement's population was 1280. Luige gained its small borough status on 18 August 2008, before that it was a village. Counties ( et, maakond, plural ') are the first-level administrative subdivisions of Estonia. Estonian territory is composed of 15 counties, including 13 on the mainland and 2 on islands. A municipality ( et, omavalitsus, plural ) is the smallest administrative subdivision of Estonia. Each municipality is a unit of self-government with its representative and executive bodies. The municipalities in Estonia cover the entire territory of the country.
