The company was established in 1888 with the formation of the Celadon Terra Cotta Company in Alfred (village), New York, Alfred, New York. It has created tile for many prominent buildings throughout the United States. History Ludowici Roofing Tile Company Carl Ludowici was a machinist in Ensheim, Germany and in 1857 he purchased a local roof tile factory and upgraded it with machines of his own design, founding the :de:Ludowici Ziegelwerke, Carl Ludowici Ziegelwerke. The firm moved to a factory in Ludwigshafen in 1861 and slowly grew, largely due to the innovative nature of Ludowici's steam-powered tile press. Ludowici, Georgia
Ludowici () is a city in Long County, Georgia, United States. The population was 1,703 at the 2010 Census and an estimated 2,221 in 2018. The city is the county seat of Long County. It is a part of the Hinesville-Fort Stewart metropolitan area. The town, which was originally called Johnston Station, had its beginnings in the 1840s when the Atlantic and Gulf Railroad (1856–1879), Atlantic and Gulf Railroad established a stop referred to as "Four and a Half". The station was constructed across from the house of a landowner named Allen Johnston. The Long County Courthouse and Ludowici Well Pavilion are listed on the National Register of Historic Places listings in Long County, Georgia, National Register of Historic Places. Ludowici Well Pavilion
Ludowici Well Pavilion is a historic site in Ludowici, Georgia, located on McQueen Street. It was constructed in 1907 and supplied drinking water. Georgia.gov It is in an open public area in the center of town. It is shaped like an octagon and has wooden benches inside, which were originally outside. It uses locally made Ludowici tiles on the roof. With renovations in 1958 and 1983, surrounding pine trees were removed, as well as a paneled ceiling and brick floor.
