Lucrezia Donati
Lucrezia Donati (Florence, Italy; 1447-''ibidem'', 1501) was an Italian noblewoman, mistress of Lorenzo de' Medici. The identity of the woman in the sculpture ''Dama col mazzolino'', at Bargello Museum in Florence could be attributed to Lucrezia Donati. Also Sandro Botticelli's painting '' Fortitude'' would be another representation of her. Biography Lucrezia was the daughter of Manno Donati and Caterina Bardi, a Florentine dame who belonged to an extinct family tree, being the last descendant. From 1461 was the mistress of Lorenzo il Magnifico, a platonic love, until Lorenzo later married the Italian noble Clarice Orsini. In 1486 Lorenzo remembered the poems he had written for her when he was 16 in the poem ''Corinto''. Lucrezia married the Florentian businessman Niccolò Ardighelli, who died in exile in 1496. Fortitude (Botticelli)
''Fortitude'' (Italian: ''Fortezza'') is a painting by the Italian Renaissance master Sandro Botticelli, finished in 1470. Housed in the Galleria degli Uffizi, in Florence, Italy, ''Fortitude'' was the first recorded masterpiece by Botticelli. This work originally belonged to a set of seven panels representing Virtues, intended to decorate the Tribunal Hall of Palazzo della Signoria in Florence. The other six panels are painted by Piero del Pollaiuolo's workshop. Unlike the other panels in the cycle, painted on cypress wood, the ''Fortitude'' is painted on poplar, a more commonly used wood for painting on panels in Tuscany. The 1.67 x 0.87–meter painting was produced with tempera paint on a wood panel. Tempera paint consists in mixing the dry powdered colors with yolk of egg, slightly thinned with acetic acid or water, instead of mixing the colors with oil or varnish as in the case of oil painting. Clarice Orsini
Clarice Orsini (1453 – 30 July 1488) was the daughter of Jacopo Orsini, and Maddalena Orsini; both from the Orsini family, a great Roman noble house, and was the wife of Lorenzo de' Medici. Life Clarice and Lorenzo married 4 June 1469, with a four-day celebration. The marriage was arranged by Lorenzo's mother Lucrezia Tornabuoni, who wanted her eldest son to marry a woman from a noble family to enhance the social status of the Medicis. Their marriage was unusual for Florence at the time in that they were nearly the same age. Clarice's dowry was 6,000 florins. The political nature of her marriage meant that she was often called upon by each side of her family to influence the other.
