Lucky Chops
Lucky Chops is a band from New York City, which formed in 2006 and has performed professionally since 2014. They achieved prominence through performances on the New York City Subway which were filmed and shared on the internet. History The band was founded in 2006 at Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School by sousaphone player Raphael Buyo along with trombonist Josh Holcomb and saxophonist and clarinetist Daro Behroozi. The band was originally formed for a parade of Filipino culture that Buyo wanted to participate in; after that they began busking on street corners and in subway stations. During their time at college, they decided to take their band to a professional level. The name "Lucky Chops" was proposed by the band's original trumpet player, Daniel Rutkowski, during a word-association brainstorming session and refers to the fact that all of the players' primary instruments (except the drums) are wind instruments. Sousaphone
The sousaphone ( ) is a brass musical instrument in the tuba family. Created around 1893 by J.W. Pepper & Son, J. W. Pepper at the direction of American bandleader John Philip Sousa (after whom the instrument was then named), it was designed to be easier to play than the concert tuba while standing or marching, as well as to carry the sound of the instrument above the heads of the band. Like the tuba, sound is produced by moving air past the lips, causing them to vibrate or "buzz" into a large cupped Mouthpiece (brass), mouthpiece. Unlike the tuba, the instrument is bent in a circle to fit around the body of the musician; it ends in a large, flaring bell that is pointed forward, projecting the sound ahead of the player. "I Got You (I Feel Good)" is a song by the American singer James Brown. First recorded for the 1964 album '' Out of Sight'' and then released in an alternate take as a single in 1965 and included on the compilation album of the same name, it was his highest-charting song on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 and is arguably his best-known recording. Leo Pellegrino
Leonardo Antonio Pellegrino, also known as Leo P, is an American baritone saxophonist from Pittsburgh who is based in New York City. He is a member of the "brass house" band Too Many Zooz and former member of the Lucky Chops brass band. He is known for his energetic dancing that he performs while playing, often in public areas. Early life and education He was born June 3, 1991, in the city of Pittsburgh. He is the youngest son of accordionist and composer Stephen Pellegrino. Pellegrino graduated from city schools — Pittsburgh Liberty Elementary School (K-5) and Rogers Middle School for the Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA). He got his degree at the Manhattan School of Music in 2013. Too Many Zooz
Too Many Zooz is an American music group based in New York City, consisting of Leo Pellegrino (baritone saxophone), Matt "Doe" Muirhead (trumpet), and David "King of Sludge" Parks (drums). Formation and viral fame Pellegrino and Muirhead met at the Manhattan School of Music, which they were both attending. Pellegrino and Parks had played together in Drumadics, a local busking band. Teaming up in mid-2013, the trio started busking together at various stations in the New York City Subway, playing a style they call "brass house". The trio defines it as a mix of jazz, Afro-Cuban rhythms, funk, EDM, and house music. Too Many Zooz gained fame when a video of one of their subway performances, recorded by a passerby at the Union Square station, went viral on YouTube in March 2014. Moon Hooch is an American band from Brooklyn, New York, known for their dance-oriented percussion- and saxophone-based music. The band consists of saxophonists Wenzl McGowen and Michael Wilbur, and drummer Cyzon Griffin.
