Lozoya River
The Lozoya River () is a river flowing near the centre of Spain. It originates at a high altitude in the Sistema Central and cuts downward through steep rocks to flow into the Jarama River, a major tributary of the Tajo, the longest river on the Iberian Peninsula. Water use The Lozoya has been affected by the construction of several dams and reservoirs that supply almost 50 percent of the water for Madrid's metropolitan area. In fact, 50 percent of the river's length is taken up by reservoirs. Other uses of the river water such as forestry and agriculture have had much less physical impact. Because the impact of construction on the Lozoya has been so great, the river is now rated as Heavily Modified Water Body (HMWB) based on the European Synthesis Project. Sistema Central
The Central System, Spanish language, Spanish and , is one of the main systems of mountain ranges in the Iberian Peninsula. The 2,592 m high Pico Almanzor is its highest summit. Jarama
Jarama () is a river in central Spain. It flows north to south and passes east of Madrid where the El Atazar Dam is built on a tributary, the Lozoya River. It flows into the river Tagus in Aranjuez. Buitrago del Lozoya () is a municipality of the autonomous community of Madrid in central Spain. It belongs to the comarca of Sierra Norte. The town is one of the few in the community that have maintained its walls, which are of Moorish origin (11th century) and have been restored in the 15th century. It lies on a peninsula surrounded by the Lozoya river.
