Loyal Edwin Knappen
Loyal Edwin Knappen (January 27, 1854 – May 14, 1930) was a United States federal judge, United States circuit judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and the United States circuit court, United States Circuit Courts for the Sixth Circuit and previously was a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Western District of Michigan. Education and career Born in Hastings, Michigan, Hastings, Michigan, Knappen received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Michigan in 1873 and read law to enter the bar in 1875, thereafter receiving a Master of Arts degree from the University of Michigan in 1876. He was in private practice in Hastings from 1875 to 1888, also serving as a prosecuting attorney of Barry County, Michigan, Barry County, Michigan from 1879 to 1883.
