Lower West Province
The Lower West Province was a two-member electoral province of the Western Australian Legislative Council, located in the Peel and South West region of the state. It was one of several rural seats created following the enactment of the ''Constitution Acts Amendment Act (No.2) 1963'', and became effective on 22 May 1965. It was consistently a safe seat for the Liberal Party who were able to maintain both seats comfortably. In 1989, the province was abolished by the ''Acts Amendment (Electoral Reform) Act 1987'', and was integrated into the South West and East Metropolitan regions under the new proportional voting system. Dale was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Western Australia from 1950 to 1989. Dale was a mostly rural district based to the east of Perth. The Australian Labor Party (Western Australian Branch), commonly known as WA Labor, is the Western Australian branch of the Australian Labor Party. It is the current governing party of Western Australia since winning the 2017 election under Mark McGowan. Beryl Lillian Jones (née Davies; born 30 July 1932) is a former Australian politician who was a Labor Party member of the Legislative Council of Western Australia from 1986 to 1993. Colin Bell (Australian Politician)
Colin John Bell (born 18 May 1941) is a former Australian politician who was a Liberal Party member of the Legislative Council of Western Australia from 1983 to 1989, representing Lower West Province. Bell was born in Bunbury, and attended Bunbury Senior High School. A dairy farmer at Capel before entering politics, he several terms as president of the dairy section of the Primary Industry Association, and also served on the board of the Australia Dairy Corporation. Bell entered parliament at the 1983 state election, replacing the retiring Neil McNeill in Lower West Province. He served a single six-year term before losing Liberal Party preselection prior to the 1989 election. Ian Pratt (politician)
Ian George Pratt (born 21 June 1937) was an Australian politician, and a member of the Western Australian Legislative Council from 1974 until 1986 representing the seat of Lower West Province for the Liberal Party. Biography Pratt was born in Northam, Western Australia, to Herbert Pratt, a farmer, and Maude (née Benbow). He was educated in East Miling and Pithara primary schools, and at Northam Senior High School before gaining his Teacher's Certificate in 1956 at Claremont Teachers College. He then worked as a teacher in primary schools at Cannington (1957–1958), Rivervale (1959–1962) and Armadale (1963–1974). On 10 May 1958 at St Peter's Church in Victoria Park, he married Shirley Harvey, with whom he was to have two sons and two daughters. From 1969 to 1975 he served on the Shire of Armadale-Kelmscott as a councillor, and was elected deputy president of the Shire in 1974. Neil McNeill
Neil McNeill (19 June 1921 – 8 February 2009) was an Australian politician. Born in Yarloop, Western Australia, he was educated at Scotch College, Perth, and the University of Western Australia, after which he became a farmer. He served in the military in 1945, and returned to become a district officer with the Western Australian Department of Agriculture. In 1961, he was elected to the Australian House of Representatives as the Liberal member for Canning. He held the seat until his defeat by a Country Party candidate in 1963. Mandurah is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Western Australia. The district is based on the coastal satellite city of Mandurah to the south of Perth. The seat has switched between the major parties on a couple of occasions, but has recently become stronger for the Labor Party.
