Prior to 1855, the camp at Lower Rancheria was mostly populated by Spanish-speaking miners. On 6 August 1855 a series of murders were carried out at the camp by a group of Mexicans, who killed five men and one women and who also robbed the contents of a safe. Following this, three of the Mexicans were hanged, and the Mexican population of the camp were driven away. Rancheria Creek (Tuolumne County, California)
Rancheria Creek is a long stream in northern Yosemite National Park mostly in Tuolumne County, California and is a tributary of the Tuolumne River. Draining a large area of the Sierra Nevada (U.S.), Sierra Nevada, it is the largest tributary of the Tuolumne within Yosemite National Park. The stream is labeled as Kerrick Creek on some early maps. The creek begins at Peeler Lake at the Sierra Crest, in Mono County, California, Mono County, and immediately crosses westward into Tuolumne County. It flows in a southerly direction through Kerrick Meadow and a series of high mountain valleys until reaching Kerrick Canyon, where it turns abruptly west. Drytown (formerly, Dry Town) is a census-designated place in Amador County, California. It is located south of Plymouth on Dry Creek, at an elevation of 646 feet (197 m). The population at the 2010 census was 167. The town is registered as a California Historical Landmark. The community is in ZIP code 95699 and area code 209. Today Drytown is home to a population of less than 200 people and about 5 antiques stores. But once before it was a well-known hotspot thanks to the gold mines with a population of 10,000 people.
