Lower Buckhorn Lake
Lower Buckhorn Lake is a lake located within the townships of Selwyn and Trent Lakes in Peterborough County, Ontario, Canada and is one of the Kawartha Lakes. Numerous small islands are located within the lake while the southern area is dominated by a large bay known as Deer Bay. Kawartha Lakes
The City of Kawartha Lakes (2021 population 79,247) is a unitary municipality in Central Ontario, Canada. It is a municipality legally structured as a single-tier city; however, Kawartha Lakes is the size of a typical Ontario county and is mostly rural. Buckhorn Lake (Ontario)
Buckhorn Lake is a lake in the townships of Trent Lakes and Selwyn in Peterborough County, Ontario, Canada, and is one of the Kawartha lakes. The primary inflow is from Pigeon Lake through the Gannon Narrows at the west. Secondary inflows are from Chemong Lake through the Harrington Narrows to Harrington Bay at the south, and from Sandy Lake via Sandy Creek to Sandy Creek Bay at the south. A dam and lock 31 of the Trent–Severn Waterway at the community of Buckhorn control the outflow of the lake to Lower Buckhorn Lake at the northeast. It appears that the lake acquired its name as a consequence of its shape, appearing similar in shape to a buck's head with antlers or horns projecting either side, being Pigeon and Chemong Lakes. Stony Lake (Ontario)
Stony Lake (also called Stoney Lake) is a lake in Peterborough County in central Ontario, Canada. There are three interconnected lakes (Upper Stony Lake to the northeast, Stony Lake in the centre, and Clear Lake to the southwest) which together are known as Stony or Stoney Lake. Stoney Lake forms the eastern end of the Kawartha Lakes region. It is primarily a summer cottage area but there are many permanent residences on the lakes. Name Stoney Lake was known to early European settlers as Salmon Trout Lake, but the modern name is fully appropriate. The lake actually consists of Stony Lake for the western and southern arms, the east arm is Stoney Lake. Salmon trout are no longer evident, but islands and shoals are everywhere. Trent Lakes
The Municipality of Trent Lakes is a lower-tier township in the rural, mostly wooded northern section of Peterborough County, Ontario, Canada. The municipality has a primarily cottage and tourist industry based economy but has grown year round residency due to its commute distance to the Greater Toronto Area. In 1998 the Township of Galway-Cavendish and the Township of Harvey were amalgamated by Minister's Order to become Galway-Cavendish and Harvey. The Municipality of Trent Lakes adopted its new name by By-law B2013-017 on February 19, 2013. The name was in recognition of the Trent-Severn Waterway which plays a major role in the cottage history and tourism economy of the area.
