Lovisa Selander
Lovisa Selander (born 14 March 1996) is a Swedish ice hockey player for the Boston Pride in the National Women's Hockey League (NWHL) and the Swedish national team. She currently holds the record for women’s hockey NCAA Division I career saves as well as NWHL records for single-season wins and save percentage. Career Sweden Selander began playing as a goaltender at the age of six in her native Sweden, admiring Swedish Olympians Henrik Lundqvist and Kim Martin Hasson. When she was 15, she left her local club Sollentuna HC, where she played on the U16 boys' team, to join Ormsta HC in the Swedish Women's Hockey League (now known as SDHL, then known as Riksserien). After one year in Ormsta, she joined SDE Hockey in the second tier of Swedish women's hockey. She would play two games for SDE's men's side in the men's 4th Division during the 2012–13 season, posting a .931 save percentage. 2019 Sweden Women's National Ice Hockey Team Strike
The 2019 Sweden women's national ice hockey team strike was a months-long strike by the players of the Sweden women's national ice hockey team. Background Stagnation After winning silver at the 2006 Winter Olympics, becoming the first country other than the US or Canada to reach the women's Olympic finals, and winning bronze at the 2005 and 2007 IIHF Women's World Championship, the Swedish national team went through a period of stagnation, finishing in 5th place in 3 of the 4 World Championships held between 2008 and 2012, and finishing in 4th in the 2010 Winter Olympics. In November 2009, Sweden defeated Finland 2–1 in the preliminary round of the 2009 4 Nations Cup and defeated Finland against in the bronze medal game of the tournament. Sara Grahn
Sara Karin Maria Grahn (born 25 September 1988) is a Swedish ice hockey goaltender for Luleå HF/MSSK in the Swedish Women's Hockey League (, SDHL) and the Swedish national team. She is the longest tenured goaltender in SDHL history, the only to have ever played more than 300 games, and has won the SDHL championship once. Career Growing up in Hallsberg, Grahn began skating at the age of four and began playing as a goaltender at the age of ten. When Riksserien was founded as the top flight of women's hockey in Sweden in 2007, she signed professionally with Linköping HC. After three years in Linköping, she left the club to sign with Brynäs IF, attracted in part by the more professional environment and the presence of goaltending coach Pecka Alcén. 2019 IIHF Women's World Championship
The 2019 IIHF Women's World Championship was an international Ice hockey tournament run by the International Ice Hockey Federation. It was contested in Espoo, Finland from 4 to 14 April 2019 at the Espoo Metro Areena. The United States won their fifth consecutive and ninth overall title after a shootout win over Finland. Canada claimed the bronze medal by defeating Russia 7–0. After the 2017 tournament, it was announced that tournament would expand to ten teams for 2019, having been played with eight teams since the first tournament in 1990, except in 2004, 2007, 2008, and 2009, where nine teams played. 2020–21 NWHL Season
The 2020–21 NWHL season was the sixth season of the National Women's Hockey League in North America. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the season was held in a bubble in Lake Placid, New York, from January to February 2021, with all five teams returning from the previous season, along with the Toronto Six expansion team as the first Canada-based team to play in the league. The season was suspended again due to positive cases of COVID-19 within the bubble. On March 8, 2021, the league announced that the Isobel Cup playoffs would re-commence on March 26 and 27 at Warrior Ice Arena in Brighton, Massachusetts. Isobel Cup
The Lady Isobel Gathorne-Hardy Cup, often shortened to Isobel Cup, is the championship trophy awarded annually to the Premier Hockey Federation (PHF) playoff winner. It is named after Lady Isobel Gathorne-Hardy, one of the first known women to play the game and daughter of Lord Stanley (the namesake of the Stanley Cup, and former Governor-General of Canada). The front of the trophy is engraved with "The Lady Isobel Gathorne-Hardy Cup 1875–1963. This Cup, shall be awarded annually to the greatest professional women's hockey team in North America. All who pursue this Cup, pursue a dream; a dream born with Isobel, that shall never die. EST. 2016." Michelle Löwenhielm
Michelle Karin Löwenhielm (born 22 March 1995) is a Swedish ice hockey forward and the captain of SDE Hockey in the Swedish Women's Hockey League (SDHL). She represented in the women’s ice hockey tournament at the 2014 Winter Olympics and at five IIHF Women's World Championships. International career Löwenhielm was selected for the Sweden women's national ice hockey team in the 2014 Winter Olympics. She played in all six games, scoring one goal and adding two assists. Canadian Women's Hockey League
The Canadian Women's Hockey League (CWHL; french: Ligue canadienne de hockey féminin ‒ LCHF) was a women's ice hockey league. Established in 2007 as a Canadian women's senior league in the Greater Toronto Area, Montreal, and Ottawa, the league eventually expanded into Alberta, as well as teams in China and the United States throughout its tenure. The league discontinued operations May 1, 2019, after 12 seasons of operations. For most of its existence, it was the highest level women's hockey league in North America while registered as an amateur association.
