Loverboy is a Canadian Rock music, rock band formed in Calgary, Alberta in 1979. Loverboy's hit singles, particularly "Turn Me Loose (Loverboy song), Turn Me Loose" and "Working for the Weekend", have become arena rock staples and are still heard on many classic rock and classic hits radio stations across Canada and the United States. After being rejected by many American record labels, Loverboy signed with Columbia Records, Columbia/CBS Records Canada and began recording the debut album on March 20, 1980. Mike Reno
Mike Reno (born Joseph Michael Rynoski; born January 8, 1955) is a Canadian musician, singer and the lead singer of the rock band Loverboy. He fronted other bands, including Moxy (band), Moxy, before helping form Loverboy. Reno also sang for the Canadian band Hammersmith in 1976. Early life, family and education Reno was born in New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada. He spent his early years in the South Okanagan. Reno recalls writing songs when he was 12 or 13 years old. He graduated from Penticton Secondary School. Career During his high school years in the early 1970s, Reno joined a cover band called Morning Glory in which he played the drums. Eventually he joined the cover band Synergy. Later, Reno moved on to a band, Spunk, with guitarist Jack Stoltz. Paul Dean (guitarist)
Paul Warren Dean (born February 19, 1946) is a Canadian musician and the lead guitarist of the Canadian rock band Loverboy which reached huge fame in the early 1980s. Biography Growing up in Calgary, Alberta, Dean first started out playing washtub bass at the age of 12, followed by a plastic wind-up ukulele, which he received for Christmas at 13. He received his first guitar 2 months later, an acoustic, which he commenced to smash using it as a badminton racket. He next saved to buy his first electric guitar later that summer. Dean's early musical influences included Duane Eddy, Luther Perkins, Hank Marvin, The Ventures, The Fireballs, Johnny and the Hurricanes, and later Led Zeppelin, Jeff Beck, The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix and Boston. Dean's first bands included Cannonball, the Great Canadian River Race, Canada (later known as Canada-Fox) and Scrubbaloe Caine. Scott Smith (musician)
Donald Scott Smith (13 February 1955 – 30 November 2000) was a Canadian musician and the bassist for Canadian rock band Loverboy, an award-winning band which sold millions of records and scored several hit songs in the 1980s before a break up and reunion in the 1990s.(11 January 2001). Robert Jens Rock (born April 19, 1954) is a Canadian record producer, recording engineer and musician. In 1976, Rock joined Little Mountain Sound Studios, starting out as a recording engineer and sound mixer. During his time there, he collaborated with producer Bruce Fairbairn, engineering and mixing several influential rock albums, including Loverboy's '' Get Lucky'' (1981), Bon Jovi's '' Slippery When Wet'' (1986), and Aerosmith's '' Permanent Vacation'' (1987). Rock and singer-songwriter Paul Hyde formed the band Payola$ in 1978. Payola$ were best known for the single "Eyes of a Stranger", from their 1982 album '' No Stranger to Danger'', an album that won the band four Juno Awards. Kenneth "Spider" Sinnaeve (born May 2, 1954) is a Canadian musician. He was a founding member of the popular Canadian band Streetheart, and since 2001 has been a member of Loverboy, replacing late bassist Scott Smith. Bruce Earl Fairbairn (December 30, 1949 – May 17, 1999) was a Canadian record producer. He was active as a producer from 1976 to 1999, and is considered one of the best of his era. His most successful productions are '' Slippery When Wet'' and ''New Jersey'' by Bon Jovi, '' Permanent Vacation'', ''Pump'', and ''Get a Grip'' by Aerosmith, '' The Razors Edge'' by AC/DC, and ''Balance'' by Van Halen, each of which sold at least three million copies. He was originally a trumpet player, then started a career as a record producer for Canadian rock band Prism. Fairbairn won the Canadian music industry Producer of the Year Juno Award three times. "Working for the Weekend" is a song by Canadian rock band Loverboy from their second studio album, '' Get Lucky'' (1981). It was written by guitarist Paul Dean, vocalist Mike Reno, and drummer Matt Frenette and produced by Bruce Fairbairn and Dean. The song was released as the lead single from the album in 1981 and reached number 29 on the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100 chart, as well as number two on ''Billboard''s Rock Top Tracks chart in February 1982. Moxy (band)
Moxy is a Canadian rock band, formed in Toronto, Ontario in 1973. They toured Canada before having a hit in late 1975 with "Can't You See I'm A Star". Moxy then toured the United States on the strength of their radio airplay. Markets in which the band was very popular included Ontario, Chicago, St. Louis, Detroit, and San Antonio. Joe Anthony, "The Godfather of Rock" in San Antonio on KISS-FM was largely responsible for the popularity of the band in Texas and helped bring about their first headline appearance in the U.S. in 1977, appearing with AC/DC as their opening act. Jim Clench
James Patrick Clench (May 1, 1949 – November 3, 2010) was a Canadian bassist, vocalist and songwriter known for his roles in the rock bands April Wine and Bachman–Turner Overdrive. With April Wine (first run) Clench was asked to join April Wine after their original bassist Jim Henman decided to leave the band in October 1971. Although Myles Goodwyn was April Wine's primary lead singer, Clench was lead vocalist on songs such as the hit singles "Oowatanite" (which he also wrote) and "Weeping Widow". In 1975, after recording three studio albums and one live, Clench decided to leave April Wine and was replaced by former Mashmakhan bassist Steve Lang.
