Louisa Elizabeth How (1821–1893) was the first woman photographer in Australia whose works survive. Biography Louisa Elizabeth How was born in England in 1821 and married James How, a labourer from Malvern, Worcestershire. They and their two sons, William (b. 1844) and Edward (b. 1848?) arrived at Port Phillip aboard the Royal George (1820 ship), Royal George on 28 November 1849 under the assisted passage scheme. In Melbourne James How was employed by Joseph Raleigh, a merchant and wharf owner and by 1857 was listed as one of the principal directors of How, Walker & Co., a merchant and shipping business started by a relative, Robert How. Malvern (, locally also: ) is a spa town and Civil parishes in England, civil parish in Worcestershire, England. She was educated mainly by her mother, and in 1835 published a volume, ''Poems'', which was reviewed favourably. This was followed by ''The Romance of Nature'' (1836, third edition 1839), mostly in verse. Another volume was published in 1839, subtitled ''An autumn ramble on the Wye'' an account of a tour on the River Wye from Chepstow to near its source at Plynlimon. Government House is the heritage-listed vice-regal residence of the governor of New South Wales. It is located on Conservatorium Road in the Sydney central business district, adjacent to the Royal Botanic Garden, and is situated south of the Sydney Opera House, overlooking Sydney Harbour. William Landsborough
William Landsborough (21 February 1825 – 16 March 1886) was an explorer of Australia. He was notable for being the first explorer to complete a North-to-South crossing of Australia. He was a member of the Queensland Legislative Council. Biography Landsborough was born on 21 February 1825, in Stevenston, Ayrshire, Scotland, the son of David Landsborough and his wife Margaret (née McLeish). Landsborough was educated in Irvine, North Ayrshire, Irvine and migrated to Australia in 1842, several years after his brothers James and John. At that time, this was the most northerly coastal settlement along the eastern seaboard of Australia and it was here that Landsborough began his career as an explorer. Between 1856 and 1861, each year when the shearing season was over, he explored north and west, each time deeper into unknown territory.
