Louis Muhlbauer
Louis John Muhlbauer (June 26, 1929 — December 25, 1997) is an American politician who served as a Iowa Democratic Party, Democrat in the Iowa House of Representatives from 1982 to 1992. Biography Early life Maulbauer was born on June 26, 1929, near Halbur, Iowa. In 1947, he graduated from Manning High School. He attended Westmar University for one year, then changed to the University of Iowa, graduating in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science. Maulbauer married Phyllis Kerkhoff of Templeton, Iowa, Templeton, on June 12, 1950, having 9 children with her. Muhlbauer taught agriculture at Manning High School for 3 years. He also worked as a farmer for 28 years in Audubon, Iowa. Political career Muhlbauer was elected a Iowa Democratic Party, Democrat to the Iowa House of Representatives in 1982, serving until 1992. Audubon is a city and the county seat in Audubon County, Iowa, United States. The population was 2,053 in the 2020 census, a decline from 2,382 in the 2000 census. History The city is named for John James Audubon the world-famous ornithologist, artist, and painter. Audubon was laid out by the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad, on September 23, 1878. An auction sale of town lots was held on October 15, 1878, with a total sales of $6,190. Templeton is a city in Carroll County, Iowa, United States. The population was 352 at the time of the 2020 census. History Templeton was platted in 1882. The city was probably named for a railroad worker. The city was incorporated on September 28, 1883. The city is perhaps best known as the home of Templeton Rye, a "brand" of rye manufactured during the prohibition era that was very popular in Chicago, Omaha, and Kansas City speakeasies. Westmar University
Westmar University was a private four-year liberal arts college in Le Mars, Iowa, United States. It permanently closed on November 21, 1997. Westmar University was founded in 1887 as the Northwestern Normal School and Business College by Jacob Wernli, the Plymouth County Superintendent of Schools. Wernli severed his association with the school in 1891. In 1892 it was taken over by the Le Mars Normal Association, an organization of local businessmen who saw value in having a college in the town, and renamed as Le Mars Normal School. It emphasized the training of teachers for public schools. In 1900, ownership of the college was transferred to the United Evangelical Church, renaming it Western Union College.
