Louis Meldon
Louis Albert Meldon (10 October 1886 – 21 February 1956) was an Irish sportsman, who represented his country in both cricket and tennis. A right-handed batsman and right-arm medium pace bowler, Meldon played four first-class cricket matches for Ireland, all against Scotland, between 1909 and 1912. A first-class match is of three or more days scheduled duration between two sides of eleven players each and is officially adjudged to be worthy of the status by virtue of the standard of the competing teams. The etymology of "first-class cricket" is unknown, but the term was used loosely before it acquired official status in 1895, following a meeting of leading English clubs. Irish Cricket Team
The Ireland men's cricket team represents All-Ireland in international cricket. The Irish Cricket Union, operating under the brand Cricket Ireland, is the sport's governing body in Ireland, and they organise the international team. The Ireland Davis Cup team represents the whole of the island of Ireland in Davis Cup tennis competition and are governed by Tennis Ireland. Ireland competed in its first Davis Cup in 1923. Ireland currently compete in the World Group Zone II, having been promoted from Europe Zone Group III in 2021.
