Louis Joseph Van Schaick
Louis Joseph Van Schaick (July 1, 1875February 14, 1945) was an officer in the United States Army and a Medal of Honor recipient for his actions in the Philippine–American War. Biography Van Schaick was born on July 1, 1875, in Cobleskill, New York, to John Van Schaick and the former Frances Elizabeth Shaver. Among his siblings was John van Schaick Jr., who later married Julia Asenath Romaine (a daughter of Benjamin F. Romaine of New York City). Van Schaick attended West Point as a member of the 1900 class but left one year before graduating to join the army. While serving in the Philippines, he held the governorships of Cavite (1905–1907) and Mindoro (1908–1912). In 1906, he assisted Colonel Harry Hill Bandholtz in carrying out the capture of the notorious Filipino bandit leader, Macario Sakay. He later went on to fight with General John J. Cobleskill is a town in Schoharie County, New York, United States. The United States Army Center of Military History (CMH) is a directorate within the United States Army Training and Doctrine Command. The Institute of Heraldry remains within the Office of the Administrative Assistant to the Secretary of the Army. Macario Sakay
Macario Sakay y de León (March 1, 1870 – September 13, 1907) was a Filipino general who took part in the 1896 Philippine Revolution against the Spanish Empire and in the Philippine–American War. After the war was declared over by the United States in 1902, Sakay continued resistance by leading guerrilla raids. The following year he established the Tagalog Republic with himself as president. Sakay was executed by hanging in 1907. Early life Macario Sakay de León was born on March 1, 1878, along Tabora Street, Tondo, in the City of Manila. He first worked as an apprentice in a '' kalesa'' (carriage) manufacturing shop. Harry Hill Bandholtz (December 18, 1864 – May 7, 1925) was a United States Army career officer who served for more than a decade in the Philippines. He was a Major general (United States), major general during World War I, and the US representative of the Inter-Allied Military Mission in Hungary in 1919. Early life Bandholtz was born in Constantine, Michigan, on December 18, 1864. He was the youngest of two children. His father, Christian Johan Bandholtz, was an emigrant from Schleswig-Holstein and earned his living as a harness maker. Elizabeth Hill, his mother, was a milliner. Bandholtz attended local schools and graduated from high school in 1881. He first worked locally as a billing clerk, and later found work in Chicago as a bookkeeper for a mercantile exchange company.
