Louis Hellenic Cruise Lines
Celestyal Cruises (formed in 2014) is a succession to Louis Cruises and Louis Cruise Lines. The Cruise line was a subsidiary of Louis plc (founded in 1935 as the first travel agency in Cyprus) until November 2021 when Searchlight Capital Partners took a majority share within the Cruise Line. Celestyal Cruises has two cruise ships: the MS Celestyal Discovery and the MS Celestyal Journey. The cruise line operates out of Athens, Greece offering itineraries on a 3,4- and 7-night basis around the Greek islands, Turkey, and the Eastern Mediterranean. It is reported that it carried 115,000 guests in 2019. Celestyal Cruises operated for six years in Cuba until 2018 and historically chartered ships to Marella Cruises, previously Thomson Cruises. Celestyal Journey
''Celestyal Journey'' is a cruise ship completed in 1994 and initially sailed for Holland America Line as ''Ryndam''. After nine years she was transferred within the Carnival group to P&O Cruises Australia and renamed ''Pacific Aria''. Plans that she would sail for Cruise & Maritime Voyages as ''Ida Pfeiffer'' from 2021 were abandoned, and P&O sold her instead in 2020 to Seajets, who laid her up as ''Aegean Goddess''. In 2023 she was resold to Celestyal Cruises and renamed ''Celestyal Journey''. In December 2023, the Celestyal Journey was chartered by German-based cruise line, Phoenix Reisen. SS ''Ausonia'', later known as the SS ''Ivory'' and ''Aegean Two'' while in service with her last owners, Golden Star Cruises, was a cruise ship, cruise liner belonging to Louis Cruise Lines operating in the Mediterranean. SS ''The Emerald'' was a cruise ship owned by Louis Cruise Lines (now Celestyal Cruises). She was built in 1958 by the Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock company in Newport News, Virginia, United States, for the Grace Line, as the ocean liner ''Santa Rosa''. Between 1992 and 1995, she sailed for Regency Cruises as ''Regent Rainbow'' and between 1997 and 2008, she sailed for Thomson Cruises (now Marella Cruises) as ''The Emerald''. Marella Cruises (formerly Thomson Cruises) is a British cruise line operated by TUI UK, offering cruise holidays around Europe, the Caribbean, and Asia. History The company had initially entered the cruise market in 1973, but due to rising fuel costs the venture was terminated in 1976. Limassol, also known as Lemesos, is a city on the southern coast of Cyprus and capital of the Limassol district. Birka Cruises (formerly Birka Line) was an Ålandian shipping company that operated a cruise ship on the Baltic Sea with Stockholm as the starting point under the name Birka Cruises.
