Louis Gossett Jr.
Louis Cameron Gossett Jr. (May 27, 1936 – March 29, 2024) was an American actor. He made his stage debut at the age of 17. Shortly thereafter, he successfully auditioned for the Broadway theatre, Broadway play ''Take a Giant Step.'' Gossett continued acting onstage in critically acclaimed plays including ''A Raisin in the Sun'' (1959), ''The Blacks (play), The Blacks'' (1961), ''Tambourines to Glory'' (1963), and ''The Zulu and the Zayda'' (1965). In 1977, Gossett appeared in the popular miniseries ''Roots (1977 miniseries), Roots'', for which he won Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series, Outstanding Lead Actor for a Single Appearance in a Drama or Comedy Series at the Emmy Awards. ''Sadat'' is a 1983 American two-part, four-hour made-for-television biographical film based on the life and death of the late 3rd President of Egypt, Anwar Sadat. The film starred Louis Gossett Jr. as Sadat and Madolyn Smith as Sadat's wife, Jehan. Gossett's performance earned him a nomination for an Emmy Award and a Golden Globe Award.
