Loughgiel Shamrocks GAA
Loughgiel Shamrocks GAC is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in the village of Loughgiel/Loughguile in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. They are currently the only club in Ulster to have won an All-Ireland Senior Club Hurling Championship, which they first won in 1983. They repeated the feat by defeating Coolderry from Offaly by 4-13 to 0-17 in the All Ireland Club Hurling Final on 17 March 2012. On Sunday 29 September 2013, they achieved their first four in a row of Antrim Senior Hurling Championships by beating Cushendall, in the first final to be staged outside Casement Park since 1990. The Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA; ; CLG) is an Irish international amateur sports, amateur sporting and cultural organisation, focused primarily on promoting indigenous Gaelic games and pastimes, which include the traditional Irish sports of hurling, camogie, Gaelic football, Gaelic handball, and GAA rounders. Ballyhale Shamrocks is a Gaelic games club located in the parish of Ballyhale in County Kilkenny, Ireland. It is a member of the Kilkenny branch of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). Founded in 1972, the club was a amalgamation of three teams Ballyhale, Knocktopher and Knockmoylan. The Shamrocks are the most successful club in the history of the All-Ireland Senior Club Hurling Championship, having won the title on nine occasions. Hurling History Beginnings Gaelic Games had been played in the parish of Ballyhale long before the Shamrocks club was established. James Stephens is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in Kilkenny, Ireland. The club was founded in 1887 and has enjoyed equal success in both hurling and Gaelic football. Liam Watson (hurler)
Liam Watson (born 1983) is a former hurler who played for Loughgiel Shamrocks and at senior level for the Antrim county team. He was nominated for an All Star award in 2011 and travelled to the United States as a replacement. Watson made his first appearance for Antrim during the 2002 championship and immediately became a regular member of the starting fifteen. He won eleven Ulster medals, one National League (Division 2) medal and one Christy Ring Cup medal, the latter as a non-playing substitute. At club level, Watson is an All-Ireland medalist with Loughgiel Shamrocks. He has also won four Ulster medals and four county club championship medals. In March 2012 he scored 3–7 when he won the All-Ireland Senior Club Hurling Championship with Loughgiel after a 4–13 0–17 defeat of Coolderry in the final at Croke Park. Niall Patterson
Niall Patterson (born 2 January 1962) is a former hurler who played as a goalkeeper for the Antrim senior team. Patterson made his first appearance for the team during the 1979 "B" championship and was a regular member of the starting fifteen for over a decade. During that time he won two All-Ireland "B" medals and three Ulster medals. At club level Patterson is an All-Ireland club medalist with Loughgiel Shamrocks. Michael O'Connell (born 4 January 1937) is an Irish former Gaelic footballer. Throughout his 25-year club career, he played for Young Islanders, winning seven South Kerry Championship titles during a golden age for the club; he also played for divisional side South Kerry, and experienced success in the County Championship.
