Georgie Abrams (November 11, 1918 – June 30, 1994) was an American boxer who came very close to winning the World Middleweight Championship in November 1941 against Tony Zale and was a top contender for the title in the early 1940s. A newspaper decision was a type of decision in professional boxing. It was rendered by a consensus of sportswriters attending a bout after it had ended inconclusively with a " no decision", as many regions had not adopted the National Sporting Club of London's rules regarding judges and referees. Halifax, Massachusetts
Halifax is a town in Plymouth County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 7,749 at the 2020 census. History Halifax was first settled by Europeans, most notably the Bosworth family from Bosworth Fields in England, in 1669, growing with lumbering and agriculture. It was officially separated from the town of Plympton and incorporated in 1734, and was named for Halifax, West Yorkshire, England. The town was part of an early effort to create a canal between Buzzards Bay and Massachusetts Bay, when in 1795 a canal was proposed between the Taunton River and North River; the plan never succeeded, although the town's sawmills continued to grow, as did cranberry production, iron furnaces and a wool mill. Lloyd Marshall
Lloyd Marshall (June 4, 1914 – August 4, 1997) was an American light heavyweight boxer who competed from 1936 to 1951. Although he never fought for a world title, Marshall was a skilled fighter who faced tough opposition throughout his career (including victories over several former and future title holders). Marshall was considered a member of the Murderers' Row, a group of the most feared black fighters of the 1940s, who were often avoided by contemporary champions. In June 2010 Marshall was posthumously inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame. Pro career Marshall began his boxing career at the age of 17 and became a pro in 1936. Gus Lesnevich
Gustav George Lesnevich (February 22, 1915 – February 28, 1964) was an American boxer who held the world light-heavyweight championship from 1941 to 1948. Boxing career Lesnevich was born and raised in Cliffside Park, New Jersey. He turned pro in 1934 and in 1939 took on World Light Heavyweight champion Billy Conn, but lost a decision. In 1941, he took on Anton Christoforidis, winning the NBA light heavyweight title by decision. Later that year he defended the title twice against Tami Mauriello, winning both decisions to become the undisputed light heavyweight champion. In 1948, he lost a decision to Freddie Mills along with his title recognition. In 1949, he took on Ezzard Charles, but was TKO'd in the 7th, and retired after the bout. Thaddeus Jarosz (June 24, 1910 – March 29, 1974) was an American boxer. He held the world middleweight boxing championship from 1934 to 1935. Early life Yarosz was born the second of eight children on the North side of Pittsburgh, but when he was ten, his family moved to Monaca, Pennsylvania, a suburb twenty-six miles away. Vince Dundee (October 22, 1907 – July 27, 1949), born Vincenzo Lazzara in Sicily, became the New York State Athletic Commission world middleweight champion when he defeated reigning champion Lou Brouillard on October 30, 1933. His title was also recognized by the National Boxing Association (NBA). He was the younger brother of former welterweight world champion of boxing, Joe Dundee. The World Boxing Association (WBA), formerly known as the National Boxing Association (NBA), is an international professional boxing organization based in Panama.
