Lotus 66
The Lotus 66 is a track day car produced by Lotus Cars. The car is based on three drawings for a Can-Am racing car drawn up by Geoff Ferris of Team Lotus in 1969 but which the company did not build. The model number 66 was never allocated in period but chronologically fits in with the Lotus model numbers. Lotus produced the model after an article in Motor Sport magazine ''Motor Sport'' is a monthly motor racing magazine, founded in the United Kingdom in 1924 as the ''Brooklands Gazette''. The name was changed to ''Motor Sport'' for the August 1925 issue. Track Day
A track day is an organised event in which non-members are allowed to drive or ride around established motor racing circuits, or alternatively (though far less common) on closed or disused airfields. Most race tracks around the world now provide this facility, where a road legal or track prepared car or motorcycle can be used without speed restriction (as if racing, though the practice of actual racing is almost exclusively forbidden at these events) by members of the public. Criteria for being eligible to participate is usually the holding of a driving licence for the vehicle in question or the appropriate racing license for the event can also be used and the payment of a fee. Sports car racing is a form of motorsport road racing that uses sports cars with two seats and enclosed wheels. Can-Am
The Canadian-American Challenge Cup, or Can-Am, was an SCCA/ CASC sports car racing series from 1966 to 1974, and again from 1977 to 1987. The Can-Am rules were deliberately simple and placed few limits on the entries. This led to a wide variety of unique car body designs and powerful engine installations. Notable among these were Jim Hall's Chaparrals and entries with over 1,000 horsepower. History Can-Am started out as a race series for Group 7 sports racers with two races in Canada (''Can'') and four races in the United States of America (''Am'').
