Lotus 19
The Lotus 19 or Monte Carlo is a mid-engine sports-racing car designed by Colin Chapman of Lotus and built from 1960 until 1962. Lotus 19 The 19 is a mid-engine, rear wheel drive sports racer with a fiberglass body over a space frame, originally designed with 1.5 - 2.75L Coventry Climax FPF engine built for Grand Prix cars, mated to Lotus' own five-speed sequential transaxle nicknamed ' Queerbox' which gave a lot of problems on the Lotus 15, but was improved in its reliability for the Lotus 18. Cooper Car Company
The Cooper Car Company was a British car manufacturer founded in December 1947 by Charles Cooper and his son John Cooper. Together with John's boyhood friend, Eric Brandon, they began by building racing cars in Charles's small garage in Surbiton, Surrey, England, in 1946. Through the 1950s and early 1960s they reached motor racing's highest levels as their mid-engined, single-seat cars competed in both Formula One and the Indianapolis 500, and their Mini Cooper dominated rally racing. The Cooper name lives on in the Cooper versions of the Mini production cars that are built in England, but is now owned and marketed by BMW. 1961 Canadian Grand Prix
The 1961 Canadian Grand Prix was a motor race held at Mosport Park on September 30, 1961, held for sports cars eligible for the Canadian Sports Car Championship regulations. 26 cars started the race. It was the first time a motor race had carried the name Canadian Grand Prix, which in future years would become an event on the Formula One world championship. The race was won by Canadian driver Peter Ryan driving a Lotus 19. Mecom Racing Team
The Mecom Racing Team was led by John Mecom Jr. and was active between 1960 and 1967 in the World Sportscar Championship racing, Formula One, and American Championship Car Racing scenes. The Mecom Racing Team and later the Mecom Group were led by John Mecom Jr. John Mecom Jr. was known to have as many as seven different marques not only at the same event but in the same race. In the early 1960s the Mecom Racing Team had great success in the Bahamas Speed Weeks. Peter Ryan (racing Driver)
Peter Barry Ryan (10 June 1940 – 2 July 1962) was an American-born Canadians, Canadian racecar driver from Mont-Tremblant, Quebec. He had a short Formula One career. He participated in one Grand Prix, the 1961 United States Grand Prix at Watkins Glen, finishing ninth. He scored no championship points. However, he became the first Canadian ever to take part in a Formula One Grand Prix. Career Ryan first came to prominence as a skier, winning the National Ski Association's junior downhill championship at Mount Rose, Nevada, in 1957. "Immediately after Ryan's victory, Americans protested that Canadians could not win an American championship." The protest was disallowed. Jack Boison Nethercutt II (born December 22, 1936) is an American businessman, restaurateur, and former racing driver with Ferrari and Lotus. He is the chairman of Merle Norman Cosmetics and president of the Nethercutt Collection. Nethercutt raced from 1957-1965 and notably used number #102. He competed in the World Sportscar Championship with Ferrari from 1960-1961, winning the 1960 12 Hours of Sebring in class (3rd overall) in a Ferrari 250 TR, and was a part of Ferrari's winning 1960 championship season. Nethercutt also raced in the USAC Road Racing Championship and United States Road Racing Championship. British Racing Partnership (BRP) was a racing team, and latterly constructor, from the United Kingdom. It was established by Alfred Moss and Ken Gregory – Stirling Moss's father and former manager, respectively – in 1957 to run cars for Stirling, when not under contract with other firms, along with other up-and-coming drivers. History BRP ran a Cooper-Borgward Formula Two car and occasionally a BRM Formula One car in 1959, the latter being demolished in a spectacular crash at the Avus street circuit. Valerio Colotti
Valerio Colotti (19 April 1925 – 19 January 2008) was an Italian automotive engineer, known for his early work with Ferrari and Maserati chassis and transmission systems. Born in Modena, Colotti joined Ferrari in 1948, working under Aurelio Lampredi, followed by employment with Maserati (1953–1957), until the company dropped factory works racing. In 1958 he started his own company, known as Tec-Mec (''Studio Tecnica Meccanica''). Tec-Mec, assisted by Giorgio Scarlatti, built the tipo F/415 Formula One car, mostly based on the Maserati 250F, in which Colotti had been deeply involved. The car raced only at the 1959 USA Grand Prix, where driver Fritz d'Orey was forced to retire after qualifying 17th.
