Lost Paradise (album)
''Lost Paradise'' is the debut album by British heavy metal band Paradise Lost. Released in February 1990 by Peaceville Records, it features the band's early death-doom style. The album was re-issued in 2003 and included three bonus tracks. Background The tracks "Our Saviour" and "Frozen Illusion" were rerecorded in other Paradise Lost albums '' Tragic Illusion 25'' and ''Medusa''. Paradise Lost (band)
Paradise Lost are an English gothic metal band. Formed in Halifax, West Yorkshire, in 1988, they are considered to be among the pioneers of the death-doom genre, and regarded as the main influence for the later gothic metal movement. As of 2005, Paradise Lost have sold over two million albums worldwide. Their line-up has remained stable for such a long-standing heavy metal band, consisting of singer Nick Holmes, guitarists Greg Mackintosh and Aaron Aedy, and bassist Steve Edmondson. Holmes and Mackintosh are the principal composers, with almost all of the band's songs credited to them. During the years, the band has only changed drummers. Death-doom (also known as death-doom metal or doom-death) is a fusion genre of death metal and doom metal. It combines the slow tempos and pessimistic or depressive mood of doom metal with the deep death growl, growling vocals and double bass drum, double-kick drumming of death metal. The genre emerged in the late 1980s and gained a certain amount of popularity during the 1990s, but had become less common by the turn of the 21st century. Peaceville Records
Peaceville Records is a British independent heavy metal record label. The label was founded by Paul "Hammy" Halmshaw (of the bands Instigators and Civilised Society, as well as a former drummer of Sore Throat) in Dewsbury, England, in 1987. Originally a tape label releasing anarcho punk, the releases moved towards metal through crust punk and similar forms of metal-influenced English hardcore punk. Halmshaw started running the label full-time in 1988, although the original tape label incarnation was founded in 1981 as a vehicle for releasing Instigators demo cassettes. The label is therefore known for the connection between doom metal and the 1980s English crust punk scene. ''Gothic'' is the second studio album by British heavy metal band Paradise Lost, released on 19 March 1991 through Peaceville Records. The album (which was mostly described as death-doom when it was released) is retrospectively considered style-defining and name-giving for the genre of gothic metal. The album has been re-released and remastered twice. The 2003 re-release contains two remixes of songs from '' Lost Paradise'' (1990), bringing the total running time to 49 minutes and 30 seconds. Remixed/live versions of the songs "Eternal", "Gothic" and "The Painless" appear on the 2003 digipak re-release of ''Lost Paradise''. The death growl, or simply growl, is an extended vocal technique usually employed in extreme styles of music, particularly in death metal and other Extreme metal, extreme Heavy metal genres, subgenres of heavy metal music.
