Losheim
Losheim am See is a municipality in the district Merzig-Wadern, in Saarland, Germany. It is situated on the southern ridge of the Hunsrück, approximately 10 kilometers northeast of Merzig, and 35 kilometers northwest of Saarbrücken. In 1974 a reservoir was created in the north of Losheim that has become a popular spot for recreational activities such as hiking and swimming. Losheim am See is twinned with the following municipalities: *Capannori, Italy *Lacroix-Saint-Ouen, France *Copargo, Benin *Bokungu, Democratic Republic of the Congo *Mount Gilead, North Carolina, United States Municipal organization The municipality is composed of 12 villages: Bachem, Bergen (Saar), Bergen, Britten (Losheim am See), Britten, Hausbach, Losheim, Mitlosheim, Niederlosheim, Rimlingen, Rissenthal, Scheiden, Wahlen (Losheim), Wahlen and Waldhölzbach. Merzig-Wadern
Merzig-Wadern is a ''Kreis'' (district) in the northwest of the Saarland, Germany. Neighboring districts are Trier-Saarburg, Sankt Wendel, Saarlouis, the French ''département'' Moselle, and Luxembourg. History The district was created in 1816 when the area became property of Prussia. After World War I the Saar area was under special government of the League of Nations, which split the district into two. The area around Wadern stayed Prussian, while the Merzig area became part of the Saar area. In 1935, the Saar area rejoined Germany; however, it took till after the World War II that the two parts of the district were reunited in 1946. Geography The river Saar flows through the district, the Moselle forms the boundary in the west to Luxembourg.
