Los Padres League
The Los Padres League was a high school athletic conference in California that was part of the CIF Southern Section (CIF-SS). Member schools were located in San Luis Obispo County, San Luis Obispo and northern Santa Barbara County, Santa Barbara counties. The league was dissolved in 2018 after most of its member schools left the CIF-SS for the CIF Central Section and formed a new conference, the Central Coast Athletic Association, Central Coast Athletic Conference, with members of the Pac-8 League. The three southernmost Los Padres League members — Lompoc High School, Lompoc, Cabrillo High School (Lompoc, California), Cabrillo, and Santa Ynez Valley Union High School, Santa Ynez high schools — remained in the CIF-SS as part of the Channel League. Athletic Conference
An athletic conference is a collection of sports teams which play competitively against each other in a sports league. In many cases conferences are subdivided into smaller Division (sport), divisions, with the best teams competing at successively higher levels. Conferences often, but not always, include teams from a common geographic region. Santa Ynez Valley Union High School
Santa Ynez Valley Union High School (SYHS) is a public high school in Santa Ynez, California, that serves students in grades 9–12 in the Santa Ynez Valley. As of the 2017–18 school year, 908 students were enrolled at the school. History Santa Ynez High School was founded in 1896 and was originally located on Pine Street in Santa Ynez, now the site of Santa Ynez Elementary School. The original high school burned down in 1908, and its current facilities were built in 1937. In 2005, the school was named a California Distinguished School. Academics SYHS offers Advanced Placement (AP) classes, with 41% of students participating. Santa Maria High School (SMHS) is a public comprehensive high school in Santa Maria, California, United States. Located in the heart of the city, Santa Maria High School is the second oldest Californian public high school still functioning on its original site. The Santa Maria Joint Union High School District was founded on June 6, 1893. In 1996, SMHS was recognized as a California Distinguished School. History Built originally on the corner of Broadway and Morrison in 1892, the original school house sat where the Ethel Pope Auditorium now stands. In 1920, the present school was built. The administration building and Ethel Pope Auditorium were connected and featured a bell tower. Orcutt is an unincorporated town in Santa Barbara County, California, United States. Located in the Santa Maria Valley, Orcutt is named for William Warren Orcutt, the manager of the Geological, Land and Engineering Departments of the Union Oil Company. Nipomo High School is an American public high school located in Nipomo, California. It serves grades 9-12 as part of the Lucia Mar Unified School District. History Nipomo High School opened in 2002. Morro Bay High School is a four-year public high school located in the city of Morro Bay along the coast of San Luis Obispo County, California, United States. Cabrillo High School is a California Distinguished School that serves students of Vandenberg Village, the city of Lompoc, and Vandenberg Space Force Base in Santa Barbara County, on the California Central Coast. History The school was founded in 1965 by the Lompoc Unified School District. Built to serve the residents of Vandenberg Space Force Base, Vandenberg Village, and the northern Lompoc Valley, Cabrillo answered the sudden population boom during the late 1950s and 1960s, a result of the booming space program at Vandenberg. The California Interscholastic Federation-Southern Section (CIF-SS) is the governing body for high school athletics in most of Southern California and is the largest of the ten sections that comprise the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF). ''The Tribune'' is a semiweekly broadsheet newspaper and news website that covers San Luis Obispo County, California. History It was created in 1939 from a combination of three newspapers founded between 1869 and 1905, and was later acquired by the E. W. Scripps Company. Walter Murray led the establishment of ''The Tribune'' in the late 1860s, starting as the publication's editor and co-owner, with the first issue being printed on August 7, 1869. By 1886, the newspaper was produced above the Chicago Brewery Depot housed at the corner of Chorro and Monterey streets. In April 1939, it merged with the ''Telegram'', an anti-saloon newspaper in town, becoming the ''Telegram-Tribune''.
