Los Cycos was an American crossover thrash band founded in 1984 in Venice, Los Angeles, California, by Suicidal Tendencies frontman Mike Muir. The only recording of the band appears on the rare 1985 release ''Welcome to Venice'', the debut album and first release from Suicidal Records. History Los Cycos formed in 1984. It was the brainchild of Suicidal Tendencies frontman Mike Muir. During the first year of the band's four-year recording hiatus, current guitarist Jon Nelson left the group to start his own band (the Brood) along with fellow drummer and bandmate Amery Smith. Suicidal was currently banned from playing Los Angeles shows (largely due to the violent nature of their audience) and Muir was about to try his hand at producing as well as starting the label Suicidal Records with bassist Louiche Mayorga. Infectious Grooves
Infectious Grooves is an American funk metal supergroup led by vocalist Mike Muir and initially a side project from his group Suicidal Tendencies. The current lineup also includes guitarists Dean Pleasants and Dave Kushner, bassist Robert Trujillo, and drummer Jay Weinberg. To date, the project released four albums between 1991 and 2000. Muir and the band appear in the 1992 film ''Encino Man'', playing the song "Feed The Monkey" during the film's prom scene finale. Though Muir's sense of humor was often obvious with Suicidal Tendencies, Infectious Grooves often brought out a goofier type of humor, incorporating comedy skits involving an anthropomorphic reptile named Sarsippius. A mascot costume of Sarsippius was later created and often appeared during the band's live performances. Against (styled as AgainST) were an American crossover thrash band, formed in 2006 for the ''Welcome 2 Venice'' compilation by singer-songwriter Dan Clements, original Suicidal Tendencies members Grant Estes, Louiche Mayorga and Amery Smith and former No Mercy vocalist Kevin Guercio. History In 2006, Louiche Mayorga started the compilation album project ''Welcome 2 Venice'' with other bands from Venice, California. Just a few days later he met by chance with Grant Estes and Amery Smith, he told them about the project and they instantaneously accepted to join it. Mayorga recorded some tapes and sent them to Dan Clements ( Excel founding member and frontman) who called him that same night to form new band together. Crossover thrash (often abbreviated to crossover) is a fusion genre of thrash metal and hardcore punk. The genre emerged in the mid-1980s, when hardcore punk bands, such as Suicidal Tendencies, Cryptic Slaughter, Corrosion of Conformity and Dirty Rotten Imbeciles, began to incorporate the influence of thrash metal. At this time, the genre was particularly prominent in the New York hardcore scene, where groups including Agnostic Front, Leeway (band), Leeway, Cro-Mags and Stormtroopers of Death were widely influential.
