Lorrie Pickering
Herbert Elmer Lorraine Pickering (29 March 1919 – 25 July 2009) was a New Zealand politician of the National Party, and was a cabinet minister. Biography Pickering was born in Havelock in 1919, the son of Charles Henry Pickering. He received his education from Marlborough College, Christchurch Teachers' College, and the University of Canterbury. During World War II, he was a flying instructor for the RNZAF. After the war, he worked for the New Zealand Broadcasting School. In 1941, Pickering married Margaret Priscilla McKenzie, the daughter of Donald Seaforth McKenzie; they were to have two sons and one daughter. He contested the electorate for National in ; then, following the death of William Gillespie, he contested the electorate in the and was elected. The Hurunui electorate was abolished in 1963, and Pickering successfully contested the Rangiora electorate instead, which he represented until his retirement due to ill-health in 1972. The New Zealand National Party ( mi, Rōpū Nāhinara o Aotearoa), shortened to National () or the Nats, is a centre-right political party in New Zealand. It is one of two major parties that dominate contemporary New Zealand politics, alongside its traditional rival, the Labour Party. National formed in 1936 through amalgamation of conservative and liberal parties, Reform and United respectively, and subsequently became New Zealand's second-oldest extant political party. Brian Talboys
Sir Brian Edward Talboys (7 June 1921 – 3 June 2012) was a New Zealand politician who served as the seventh deputy prime minister of New Zealand for the first two terms of Robert Muldoon's premiership. If the abortive "#Colonels' Coup, Colonels' Coup" against Muldoon had been successful, Talboys would have become Prime Minister of New Zealand, Prime Minister himself. Early life Talboys was born in Whanganui, Wanganui on 7 June 1921. He attended primary school in Wanganui and Wanganui Collegiate School, but then travelled to Canada to study at the University of Manitoba. He later returned to New Zealand and studied at Victoria University of Wellington, gaining a Bachelor of Arts, BA.
