Loretta Thompson-Glickman
Loretta Jean Thompson-Glickman (May 23, 1945 – March 18, 2001) was an American politician. She became the first African-American mayor of Pasadena, California in 1982, which also made her the first Black woman to be mayor of an American city of over 100,000 residents. Early life and education Thompson-Glickman grew up in Pasadena, and attended courses at Pasadena City College from 1963 to 1968, but did not complete any degree program. Career Thompson was a jazz singer and toured with the New Christy Minstrels and London Fog, before retiring from the entertainment industry in 1975 to start a family. She also taught high school English in Pasadena Public Schools from 1970 to 1972, but had to resign when her temporary teaching credential expired. Bill Bogaard
William Joseph Bogaard (born 1938) is an American politician, and the former mayor of Pasadena, California. Early life On January 18, 1938, Bogaard was born in Sioux City, Iowa. Career Bogaard is a member of the Democratic Party. He was first elected mayor in 1999, and was reelected with an overwhelming majority of the vote (over 85%) in 2003. Bogaard was the first elected mayor of Pasadena since the 1940s and the longest-serving mayor in Pasadena's history. Prior to being elected mayor, Bogaard was a lawyer, and taught at the University of Michigan and the University of Southern California. He graduated from Loyola Marymount University and was a captain in the U.S. Air Force. He obtained his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Michigan.
