Devoney Looser
Devoney Kay Looser (born April 11, 1967) is an American literary critic and Jane Austen scholar. She is Regents Professor of English at Arizona State University, where she focuses on women's writing and the history of the novel. Early life and education Looser was born in Saint Paul, Minnesota on April 11, 1967, and raised in White Bear Lake, Minnesota, where her mother first introduced her to Jane Austen's work. Looser attended and graduated from Hill-Murray School in Maplewood, Minnesota in 1985. As a first-generation college student, Looser received a Bachelor of Arts in English from Augsburg College in 1989 and later earned her doctorate in English with a certification in women's studies from Stony Brook University. Career After teaching at Indiana State University, University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, Louisiana State University, and the University of Missouri, Looser accepted a faculty appointment at Arizona State University in 2013. Gualterio Looser Schallemberg (September 4, 1898, Santiago – July 22, 1982) was a Chilean botanist and engineer of Swiss parentage. He owned a factory that made agricultural implements. Hubert Looser (born 5 April 1938) is a former Swiss businessman, philanthropist and art collector. Looser was President of Walter Rentsch Holding AG and ELCO Looser Holding AG. Today Looser is active as a member of the board of the Hubert Looser Foundation. Life Looser was born on 5 April 1938 in Vilters, Switzerland, where he also grew up and attended school. He was the sixth born of seven children. His parents were entrepreneurs and had built the company ELCO. After Looser had earned his MBA from Columbia University New York, he joined his parents company in 1964 and was responsible for the establishment and leadership of the ELCO Group in France, Belgium and Luxembourg until 1980. During this time, the founding of Remaco AG for business mediation and the takeover of Walter Rentsch AG in the field of office technology took place. Vera Looser (née Adrian; born 28 October 1993) is a Namibian road cyclist and mountain biker who most recently rode for UCI Women's Continental Team . She represented her nation at the 2014 and 2018 Commonwealth Games and at the 2016 Summer Olympics. She has won the Namibian National Time Trial Championships on seven occasions, and the Namibian National Road Race Championships on ten occasions, including nine years consecutively between 2014 and 2022.
