Longombas
Longombas are a duo from Kenya performing a mixture of Hip hop and Soukous. Christian Longomba died on March 3, 2021. Career The group consists of two brothers, Christian and Lovy Longomba. They're from a musical family; father Lovy Longomba was a member of Super Mazembe, while their grandfather Vicky Longomba was a member of TPOK Jazz. France-based Congolese musician Awilo Longomba is their uncle. The group entered Kenyan music scene in 2002 with their song "Dondosa", which became a national hit. Follow-up singles were "Piga Makofi", "Shika More" and "Vuta Pumz". Their debut album ''Chukua'' was released in 2005 by Ogopa DJs. In 2003 they had left Ogopa DJs record label together with Deux Vultures and Mr. Googz & Vinnie Banton, and formed their own label, ''Bad Man Camp''. 2006 Kisima Music Awards
The 2006 Kisima Music Awards were held in Nairobi, Kenya. They were the first of the awards to be broadcast across Africa on television, after the organisers partnered with South African satellite station Channel O, and was also the first to feature a "Social Responsibility" award category. Deux Vultures
Deux Vultures is a musical group in Kenya performing hip hop and pop music. The group consists of two members: Colonel Mustapha (real name Daudi Mustapha) and Nasty Thomas (Thomas Konzanga). They grew up in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Like many other Kenyan artists, they started their career at jam sessions of the Florida 2000 nightclub in Nairobi. Originally the group was known as "Desert Vultures" and had as many as 20 members, but soon the group decreased to two members and was renamed Deux Vultures. Lovy L. Elias (born 25 November 1985), aka Prophet Lovy Elias also known by his stage name Lovy Longomba, is a Kenyan pastor, producer, songwriter, musician and life coach. Early life Lovy Longomba Elias was born on November 25, 1985, in Nairobi, Kenya. He is of East African and Congolese ancestry. His father Lovy Longomba Sr. was a member of Orchestra Super Mazembe, a Congolese band, and his grandfather Vicky Longomba was a member of TPOK Jazz. Elias started his own musical career after high school, and co-founded a hip hop/soukous musical group called Longombas, with his brother, Christian and cousin Masengo. Super Mazembe
Orchestra Super Mazembe was a popular band based in Kenya playing Lingala (Soukous) music. The band had roots in Super Vox, a band formed in 1967 in Zaire and led by Nashil Pichen Kazembe, Mutonkole Longwa Didos. The band moved to Nairobi in 1974 and changed its name to Orchestra Super Mazembe. Their biggest hit was "Shauri Yako", a cover song originally performed by Nguashi Ntimbo and Festival Du Zaire. Other popular songs included "Samba", "Bwana Nipe Pesa" and "Kassongo". The group was disbanded in 1985. Super Mazembe is considered one of the golden era of Kenyan Lingala music acts alongside Les Mangelepa, Baba Gaston and Samba Mapangala. Ogopa DJs
Ogopa Deejays are a Kenyan music production team and record label formed in the late 1990s who gained regional fame and popularity due to standards of their production work. Background The people behind Ogopa DJs are brothers Francis and Lucas Bikedo, and manager Banda. They rarely show their faces in public and do not agree to have their photos taken or published by Kenyan media. The team started out producing hit songs for artists such as Bebe Cool, Chameleone and Redsan. They are widely acclaimed to have helped boost the Kenyan urban music scene from obscurity. They are also credited with creating the Boomba (sometimes referred to as Kapuka) style of Kenyan music which is modern hip hop and dancehall influenced by African drums and rhythms.
