Long Vacation
''Long Vacation'' (, also known as ) is a Japanese television drama series from Fuji Television, first shown in Japan from 15 April to 24 June 1996. The show's high ratings in Japan made Takuya Kimura popular in the Asia-Pacific region and is known as "The King of Ratings". The characters in the series have something in common: if not jobless, they can do no better than secure a temporary job. This is a portrayal of a time when Japan was plagued by deep recession, when its people suffered profound depression from constant failure to earn a stable income. The series also portrays how relationships are made and broken, and explores how people come to depend on each other for solace. Eriko Kitagawa
(born December 24, 1961) is a Japanese screenwriter and film director. She is best known for writing Japanese television dramas, notably ''Long Vacation'' (1996), '' Beautiful Life'' (2000), '' Sora Kara Furu Ichioku no Hoshi'' (2002), and '' Orange Days'' (2004). In 2009, Kitagawa made her directorial debut in the coming-of-age film ''Halfway'', which she also wrote and co- edited. She then wrote and directed the 2012 film ''I Have to Buy New Shoes'', a contemporary romantic comedy set in Paris. Both films were produced by her friend Shunji Iwai, and Kitagawa appeared in his 2011 documentary ''Friends after 3.11'', which explores the aftermath of the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami. Video CD (abbreviated as VCD, and also known as Compact Disc Digital Video) is a home video format and the first format for distributing films on standard optical discs. The format was widely adopted in Southeast Asia, Central Asia and the Middle East, superseding the VHS and Betamax systems in the regions until DVD-Video finally became affordable in the first decade of the 21st century. The format is a standard digital data format for storing video on a compact disc.
